The Quarto Group is seeking an Acquiring Editor for our Epic Inc. imprint. This person responsible for finding and signing 15-20 projects with strong author platforms including but not limited to trend driven popular culture, animals, and nature, spirituality and religion, and travel, as well as concepting books ideas for museum and entertainment licensed books. This position will be located in our New York Office office, but we are accepting remote applications for an ideal candidate. Come join the team at The Quarto Group!
The key responsibilities for this role will be:
- Spot key trends, and constantly reassess the editorial strategy.
- Continuously analyze the competitive environment and consumer trends and publish ahead of the curve.
- Conceive, develop, and acquire original titles to each seasonal list.
- Maximize existing relationships with key agencies and authors to ensure the imprint is well positioned to take up exciting new opportunities.
- Liaise closely with the sales, marketing, and publicity to ensure that the lists reflect and drive market trends domestically and globally.
- Set and achieve key targets in terms of titles commissioned and profitability.
- Research and enlist appropriate authors.
- Independently perform developmental and line editing for book projects and titles, often providing written content, including cover copy and image captions.
- Serve as the primary creative contact with licensor contacts for specific book projects throughout the creative development and production process.
Do you have the following skills and qualifications?
- Minimum 4 years' experience in an editorial or product development role within a publishing organization.
- An impressive understanding of content development and the editorial and marketing factors that enable books to succeed.
- Highly motivated and ultra-organized person.
- Impeccable communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven ability to develop quality products and publications on time and within budget.
