Position - DevOps Automation Development role
Location - New Jersey -Onsite
Duration - Full-time
DevOps Development role involves providing configuration management, automation, and compliance solutions for hybrid multi-cloud and on-premises environments.
Core Responsibilities
- Chef & Ruby Development: Design, develop, and maintain Chef cookbooks, custom resources, and Ruby libraries for both application and platform workloads.
- Compliance Automation: Create and maintain InSpec profiles and policy-driven automation to ensure security and compliance standards are met.
- CI/CD Pipeline Integration: Integrate automated cookbook testing and promotion into Jenkins pipelines.
- Infrastructure & Platform Support: Support Linux and Windows SCM client health and develop related remediation automation.
- Testing & Quality Assurance: Perform unit, BDD, and integration testing for all delivered cookbooks and participate in code reviews and troubleshooting.
- Documentation & Training: Produce architecture diagrams, runbooks, deployment instructions, and user guides, and lead knowledge transfer sessions for operations teams.
Technical Skills Required
- Configuration Management: Expert-level Chef development (Cookbooks, Custom Resources).
- Programming/Scripting: Proficient in Ruby for infrastructure-as-code. API design and development
- Security & Compliance: InSpec profile development and security posture management.
- Tools: Jenkins for CI/CD, JIRA for sprint management, and SCM (Software Configuration Management) tools for Windows and Linux.
- Cloud/Hybrid Infrastructure: Experience with multi-cloud (AWS, Azure) and on-premises compute instances.
Required qualifications
- 6 years engineering experience with 4 years in DevOps/SRE/automation roles (senior level).
- Strong Linux administration (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) and package management (rpm/yum, dpkg/apt).
- Hands-on experience with Ansible (preferred) or Chef/Puppet and with writing idempotent automation.
- Proficient in Jenkins pipeline development (Jenkinsfile, shared libraries) and CI/CD concepts.
- Experience with artifact stores (Artifactory/Nexus) and secure artifact retrieval practices.
- Scripting: Python and Bash; familiarity with shell tooling and unit-testable scripts.
- Experience with secrets management (HashiCorp Vault, cloud KMS) and secure credential usage in pipelines.
- Good knowledge of networking, SSH, firewalls, and access controls; strong documentation skills.
- Experience working in regulated/compliant environments is strongly preferred.
Preferred
- Direct experience integrating with internal enterprise repos or PMUL/Cybersphere-like platforms.
- Familiarity with signing artifacts (GPG), checksum verification, and binary provenance.
- Terraform or cloud IaC experience; container orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes) a plus.
- Experience with ServiceNow/ITSM integration and change-control workflows.
