We are seeking a Principal Numerical Physicist in our Broomfield, CO location to apply their skills to the development of our next generation large-scale quantum computers. The Ideal candidate will have a deep expertise with E&M modeling techniques. The candidate should also have a solid understanding of cryogenic systems, magnetics, CAD, thermal modeling, test design, and prototyping. This diverse set of topics will be used to create state-of-the-art models and designs for a commercial quantum computer that advances key performance metrics in qubit count, run-time, and circuit fidelity. This role will shape core architectural decisions for next-generation quantum computing systems, influencing performance, scalability, and manufacturability. You will operate across physics, hardware, and system architecture boundaries, using simulation and analysis to drive high-impact technical decisions in an evolving and ambiguous design space.

Compensation & Benefits:
Incentive Eligible - Range posted is inclusive of bonus target when applicable
The pay range for this role is $192,000 - $240,000 annually. Actual compensation within this range may vary based on the candidate’s skills, educational background, professional experience, and unique qualifications for the role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work within the architecture team to develop producible, scalable next-gen quantum computers by providing simulations to support design of cryogenic UHV sub systems
- Develop and apply Multiphysics models for cryogenic behavior, and magnetic field systems
- Numerical tool development to assess electrical performance nano-fabricated RF ion traps
- Use simulation and analysis to drive architecture trade-offs and system-level design decisions
- Lead development of scalable simulation frameworks optimized for high-performance computing environments
- Model and analyze magnetic environments within complex vacuum systems to inform field delivery design
- Define system-level and subsystem requirements across hardware and physics domains
- Work with subsystem teams to identify potential technology insertions into system architecture
- Partner with experimental teams to design validation tests and improve model fidelity
- Generate and present design trade studies to cross disciplinary teams
- Communicate findings and design proposals to larger technical, management, and executive teams
- Mentor engineers and scientists in modeling and simulation best practices
- Operate effectively in ambiguous, early-stage design environments
- PhD Degree minimum
- 12 years of experience involving one or more of the following areas: quantum information, ion trapping, cryogenic UHV systems, atomic physics, FEA, optics, vacuum systems, or laboratory work in the physical sciences
- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status.
- Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
- 15 years of experience in scientific research and development, engineering, or leadership roles
- Experience leading a team in designing or operating cryogenic and/or XHV systems
- Hands-on experience with modeling, simulation, and/or laboratory systems
- Strong experience with COMSOL, ANSYS, or similar FEA tools
- Experience magnetic field design, shielding, and thermal modeling
- CFD experience for high-heat-load cryogenic systems
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, and experience in working with customers and partners
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results within their field of research
- Experience contributing to hiring and building high-performing teams
