Seasonal part-time June 1st through October 31st.
We are seeking candidates in Long Island in the areas of: VA Beach, DelMarVA, NJ Shore, Montauk NY, RI/CT, Cape Cod & the islands, Cape Ann and NH coast
The ideal candidate will be able to communicate with the public and captains. Must be a self starter that can deliver information in a professional way. You will be knowledgeable of game fish of Atlantic Coast. If you have a head on personality and can create conversations with clients, this job is for you!
Fisheries Interviewers are needed to survey boat owners and captains when they return from offshore trips fishing with rod and reel for tuna, sharks, swordfish, and other large pelagic species. Afternoon and some weekend availability is required, most vessels return between 3 - 7 pm and that is when our staff needs to be on the assigned site(s). Candidates must be able to identify fish to species level and approach strangers to initiate a survey.
The Fisheries Research Group coordinates QuanTech's Large Pelagics Survey (LPS) for the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). The primary purpose of the LPS is to collect data needed for generating estimates of both the recreational fishing effort directed at large pelagic species and the recreational catch of Atlantic Bluefin Tuna. The estimates developed from this data are used for monitoring of the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna fishery. A secondary goal of this survey is to collect catch data for other highly migratory species such as billfishes, sharks, and tunas other than Bluefin Tuna.
Assignments can vary from 2 to 4 hours. Some are at static time blocks of time. Approx. 3 to 4 days per week, 8-15 hours per week.

Recommended Qualifications
- Understanding and experience in Fisheries, Fish biology, and Fishing activities
- Knowledge of Fisheries Management and related practices
- Experience conducting Field Work and collecting data in environmental or aquatic settings
- Strong observational and record-keeping skills to ensure data accuracy
- Ability to work outdoors and handle the physical demands of fieldwork
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team
- Relevant experience or certifications in fisheries, marine biology, or a related field are desirable
- Ability to follow established procedures while maintaining professionalism in a field environment
