2D Laser Field Service Technician

Position Overview
The 2D Laser Field Service Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining industrial laser systems at customer sites throughout the U.S. and Canada. This is a highly independent, customer-facing role with extensive travel, overtime opportunities, and per diem.
Territory & Travel
- Northeast
- Approximately 80% travel
- Must live within 1 hour of a major airport
Key Responsibilities
- Perform system-level troubleshooting on complex mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues
- Diagnose and repair equipment by dismantling and rebuilding mechanical and electrical assemblies
- Set up and commission high-power fiber laser systems, including adaptive optics cutting heads and beam acquisition verification
- Monitor laser performance and optimize laser output to ensure system efficiency and cutting quality
- Perform software updates on HMIs, PLCs, and open-architecture CNC controllers
- Interpret electrical schematics, block diagrams, and control logic to analyze and resolve system issues
- Install system upgrades and enhancements on existing equipment
- Train customers on machine operation, preventative maintenance, and best practices
- Document service activities, system issues, root causes, and resolutions in detail
- Collaborate with internal engineering and technical teams to support continuous improvement
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Lasers, Electronics, Robotics, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical field strongly preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with CNC-controlled manufacturing equipment (laser experience strongly preferred)
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Experience working with: PLCs and CNC controllers; Servo drives, motors, sensors, relays, switches, and control circuits; AC and DC electrical systems
- Proficiency with electrical measurement and diagnostic tools (e.g., voltmeters, oscilloscopes)
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical documentation, and software logic
- Familiarity with Windows-based systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems
- Strong understanding of laser and electrical safety protocols

- $90/day per diem when traveling
