Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Quality Control Inspector with 5–10 years of hands-on experience in pressure vessel fabrication. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in layout and dimensional inspection, fit-up verification, welding processes, and a thorough understanding of applicable code requirements such as ASME Section VIII and B31.3.
This role requires the ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, monitor welding activities, and ensure full compliance with project specifications and industry standards. Current or previous CWI certification and NDT qualifications are highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform in-process and final inspections of pressure vessels to ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and applicable codes
- Conduct layout and dimensional inspections of shell courses, heads, nozzles, internals, and support structures using precision measurement tools
- Perform fit-up inspections to verify proper joint preparation, alignment, and WPS compliance
- Review and verify weld maps, travelers, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
- Monitor welding activities to ensure adherence to WPS/PQR requirements and quality standards
- Verify welder qualifications and ensure proper application of approved procedures
- Interface with project managers, engineers, and third-party inspectors to resolve quality issues
- Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards (ASME Section VIII, IX, B31.3, API 650, etc.)
- Prepare and maintain inspection reports, NCRs, and quality documentation
- Coordinate and review NDT activities (PT, MT, RT, UT) as required
- Support pressure testing and final documentation turnover
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of QC inspection experience in pressure vessel or heavy steel fabrication
- Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, isometrics, and welding symbols
- In-depth knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW) and inspection points
- Working knowledge of ASME, AWS, API, and related industry codes
- CWI certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- NDT Level II certifications (PT, MT, RT, UT) strongly preferred
- Experience with material traceability, MTRs, and heat number control
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a shop/field environment (climbing, lifting, standing for extended periods)
