Our trucking company is expanding and looking for a Fleet Manager Assistant who will help to manage a growing fleet of trucks, trailers, and drivers. In this role, you will serve as the primary quality-control gatekeeper for our fleet on-site. Your core objective is to maintain an accurate yard log, thoroughly inspect vehicles following maintenance, and ensure that every truck cabin meets our high standards of cleanliness and functionality before it is assigned to a new driver.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensure vehicles are operational, serviced, and DOT ready to meet daily service requirements.
- Familiar with all aspects of heavy truck preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
- Maintain required stock levels of driver equipment and securement gear, perform regular inventory audits of the yard equipment, manage the distribution process to drivers, and routinely inspect equipment to ensure it remains in safe, compliant, and operational condition.
- Compliance with all company & DOT safety policies.
- Assist in the preparation of all new and replacement vehicles.
- Maintain and enter all maintenance and inspection records into the database.
- Assist in the selection of all new and replacement vehicles.
- Conduct daily physical yard walks to log and track the real-time location and status of all trucks.
- Inspect truck cabs post-trip to ensure they are completely clean, sanitized, and ready for the next driver.
- Monitor automated software platforms and communication channels to track real-time vehicle arrivals and verify scheduled preventive maintenance.
- Conduct formal driver intake upon yard entry, which includes performing check-in inspections, reviewing in-cab binders for active paperwork, and verifying that all physical compliance stickers are current and properly placed.
- Collect Bills of Lading and load paperwork from drivers upon arrival, organize and label records in designated folders with truck numbers and driver names, and process them for main office submission.
- Perform detailed equipment checks on flatbed and stepdeck trailers during intake to inspect condition, verify complete inventory, and confirm no securement gear is missing or lost.
Requirements:
- Extensive practical experience in commercial trucking operations, including hands-on familiarity with tractor-trailer mechanics, preventive/corrective maintenance checks, open-deck equipment, and cargo/vehicle operational readiness.
- CDL Class A experience and actual license required.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the physical ability to work actively outdoors on the yard, conduct physical walks, inspect cabs post-trip, and assess vehicle conditions in all weather conditions.
- Track record of maintaining an impeccable safety record with zero accidents or violations and clean inspection histories.
- Bilingual is a big plus.
Pay, Schedule, & Benefits:
- Salary: $48,000 - $67,200
- 8AM - 5PM: Monday - Friday (Full Time Work)
