Location: Rochester, NY On-site
Schedule: Monday-Friday, Full Time
Compensation: $70,000-$80,000 annually, based on experience
The Senior Cost Accountant will be responsible for: Planning, studying, collecting, and entering data into the QVI Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) database to determine costs of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory, overhead (OH) and labor costs. The Senior Cost Accountant analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic variance reports by comparing standard costs to actual production costs. The position is also involved in the accounting of fixed assets/property plant and equipment, duty drawback program and other preparation of standard monthly reports and metrics.
Role and Responsibilities:
1. Maintain the item cost data within the Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI) ERP software system platform.
2. Update items after initial setup to have cost estimates of new and/or special products for establishing selling prices and production forecasts.
3. Maintain cost changes on all items.
4. Responsible for routine compilation of parts manufacturing costs for inventory accountability, distribution of factory labor, verification of actual costs and computation of variances.
5. Enter department labor and OH rates as needed annually in conjunction with the biannual cost roll when approved by CFO.
6. Maintain item product codes and associated markups for transfer and selling prices in QVI and all selling sites of CSI.
7. Interface with Purchasing, Manufacturing and Engineering Departments to establish achievable standards costs by reviewing vendor quote information and labor times and materials entered into Bills of Manufacture (BOMs)
8. Knowledge of Transfer Pricing, current rules, techniques, and requirements.
9. Assist in month-end closing, prepare journal entries as necessary, analyze inventory valuation, inventory roll forward.
10. Prepare all fixed asset account reconciliations monthly and well as fixed asset entry and maintenance of company-wide depreciation expenses.
11. Work with manufacturing departments as needed to prepare new and maintain existing Cost Accounting work instructions, have updated in the Document Management System (DMS) as per ISO 9001 regulations.
12. Coordinate with IT department for system issues, maintenance, and development.
13. Analyze cost accounting data and interface with the purchasing dept on monthly reviews of purchase price variance (PPV) activity and on make versus buy decision options.
14. Maintain internal control documentation and test internal controls, system and procedural.
15. Review and analyze inventory and margin reports, conduct research and perform analytical studies in regard to cost analyses and profitability.
16. Ensure timely submission, accuracy and validity of inventory, gross margin schedules to management.
17. Key resource for duty drawback project, and ability to recoup duty and tariff costs for International purchased parts included in machines that are sold outside of the USA.
18. Work with manufacturing, engineering and R & D personnel to capture all prototype costs, and record those costs as R & D expenses, relieving manufacturing overhead of such costs.
19. Perform ad hoc analyses and other tasks requested by management for review.
Requirements
4-year degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 2-4 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment required.
• Planning and buying experience in a manufacturing setting desirable.
• Technical skills in accounting, reconciliation of cost analysis, big data analytics.
• Strong CIS, ERP system experience
• Ability to plan and manage multiple projects.
• Problem analysis and resolution with attention to detail.
• Strong team player.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient skills on Microsoft Office Software.
Physical and/or Environmental Requirements:
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time (8-hour shift) in an office setting, utilizing standard office equipment (computer, keyboard, computer mouse, phone, etc.)
• Ability to occasionally move about and navigate through the workplace.
• Ability to occasionally lift and carry objects of 10-15 pounds.
