Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Truss Designer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing accurate, cost-effective, and structurally sound roof and floor truss systems. You will work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and our production team to ensure every design meets our high-quality standards and local building codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Engineering: Create detailed placement plans and engineering drawings for roof and floor trusses using MiTek software.
- Blueprint Analysis: Read and interpret architectural and structural blueprints to determine truss profiles, spans, and loading requirements.
- Optimization: Optimize truss designs to maximize structural integrity while minimizing material waste and production costs.
- Load Calculations: accurately calculate load transfers (tributary, concentrated, and gravity loads) to ensure structural safety.
- Customer Collaboration: Communicate directly with contractors and homeowners to clarify project details, troubleshoot design issues, and provide quotes.
- Production Support: Generate accurate cutting and assembly paperwork for the manufacturing team and assist in resolving any fabrication questions that arise in the shop.
- Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with local building codes and TPI (Truss Plate Institute) standards.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in design work is preferred.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency in MiTek software (Sapphire, etc.) is highly desired. Experience with Alpine, Simpson, or AutoCAD is a plus.
- Construction Knowledge: Strong understanding of wood-frame construction, load paths, and framing techniques.
- Math Skills: Solid command of geometry, trigonometry, and algebra for calculating angles and loads.
- Communication: Ability to explain complex structural concepts to customers and team members clearly.
- Education: Associate’s degree in Architectural Drafting, Engineering Technology, Engineering or equivalent industry experience is preferred.
