Position Summary:
The Engineering Manager at Quality Steel Corporation (QSC) leads the mechanical engineering function and drives execution of engineering work across the company’s four sites. This role leads the machine-build group responsible for designing and building manufacturing equipment for internal use. The Engineering Manager delivers equipment and improvements through the full build cycle, including design, fabrication support, assembly, construction, testing, commissioning, and ongoing support. This role works across disciplines and departments to prioritize work, troubleshoot issues, and deliver projects that improve safety, quality, throughput, and reliability. This role is hands-on and includes time in the machine build shop and on plant floors during evaluation, planning, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
· Partner with the Director of Quality & Engineering and engineering team members to identify and execute opportunities to improve manufacturing equipment, processes, and systems across all sites.
· Lead equipment build and improvement projects from concept through commissioning and sustainment; set priorities, assign work, and manage schedule and budget.
· Balance workload across the team and ensure consistent engineering methods, documentation, and build practices.
· Collaborate cross-functionally (Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Safety, IT as needed) to ensure projects support QSC goals and are integrated into site operations.
· Provide oversight of automation efforts within the machine-build scope, supporting implementation of automation solutions at varying levels of complexity.
· Lead by example and demonstrate LT Corp’s “How we Lead” traits; reinforce LT Corp’s purpose, core beliefs, and values with the team.
· Direct and support engineering team performance through clear accountability, feedback, mentoring, and professional development.
Experience:
· 8 years of progressive engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
· 5 years in a leadership, project leadership, or project management role (people leadership strongly preferred).
· Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes (design, fabrication, production, quality control).
· Demonstrated success delivering equipment projects that improve safety, quality, cost, and throughput.
· Heavy industrial manufacturing a plus.
· Experience with welding, powder coating, steel quality, or similar processes preferred.
· Experience with fabrication, CNC machining, and/or additive manufacturing (3D printing) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to translate production problems into clear equipment requirements and build plans.
- Clear communicator across levels; strong writing and basic presentation skills.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software required (SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, or equivalent).
- Effective cross-functional leadership; able to manage budgets, schedules, and competing priorities.
- Continuous improvement mindset; Lean manufacturing, Theory of Constraints, or Lean Six Sigma familiarity preferred.
Education and Certification Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in an accredited engineering program (Mechanical preferred) or closely related field required.
Travel:
· Periodic travel to QSC sites, vendors, or training as required.
