The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides person-centered supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) receiving services through Georgia’s NOW/COMP program, administered by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDS).
DSPs support individuals in a day services program and community-based settings in accordance with NOW/COMP waiver requirements and agency policies. Supports are designed to promote independence, choice, dignity, community inclusion, skill development, health, and safety.
This position is a day program and does not include residential or overnight support. The DSP must be able to safely operate a 10–12 passenger van to provide transportation for daily pick-up and drop-off and community integration activities. Job requirements are subject to change, if needed.
Start date is Late March - Early April
Core Responsibilities:
Person-Centered Day Program Support
- Deliver supports consistent with each individual’s Person-Centered Plan (PCP) and Individual Service Plan (ISP)
- Support individuals during structured day program activities, community outings, volunteer opportunities, and skill-building sessions
- Ensure services comply with program requirements related to community access and integration
Daily Living & Functional Skill Support (Day Program Scope)
- Assist individuals with skill development related to daily living and independence, such as communication, social skills, self-care routines, money management, and time management
- Support meal-related activities during program hours (e.g., preparing snacks, encouraging healthy choices)
- Reinforce adaptive and positive behavioral supports as outlined in the PCP/ISP
Community Integration & Transportation
- Facilitate meaningful participation in community-based activities aligned with individual goals
- Provide safe and reliable transportation for individuals to and from the day program and community activities
- Safely operate a 10–12 passenger van, following all DDS transportation and safety requirements
- Conduct required vehicle inspections and ensure passenger supervision and securement
Advocacy & Rights Protection
- Advocate for the rights, preferences, and needs of individuals served in accordance with DDS policies
- Protect participant health, safety, confidentiality, and dignity at all times
- Report incidents, concerns, or suspected abuse/neglect/exploitation per DDS and agency protocols
Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately complete required documentation including daily service notes, attendance logs, data collection, and progress reports
- Document services in alignment with NOW/COMP waiver billing and compliance standards
- Complete timesheets and required reports accurately and on time
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and DDS regulations
Transportation & Safety Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability and willingness to drive a 10–12 passenger van
- Follow all DDS transportation policies and emergency procedures
- Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification (or obtain within required timeframe)
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid Georgia driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record
- Ability to pass DDS-required background checks and clearances
- CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within agency-required timeframe)
- Experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred

Work Environment
