Quality Electrical Systems (QES) is seeking an experienced Systems Engineering Manager to build and lead our systems engineering and product development function.

Quality Electrical Systems (QES) designs and manufactures custom-engineered electrical equipment, including:
- Modular E-Houses
- Medium- and low-voltage switchgear
- Power Distribution Centers (PDCs)
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) systems
- Custom electrical enclosures and integrated power solutions

The Systems Engineering Manager will lead the implementation of a formal systems engineering approach across our engineering organization while managing a small team of R&D engineers and technical specialists.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building processes, bringing structure to complex engineering environments, and leading cross-functional teams through product development and organizational change.
You will serve as the bridge between Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Operations to ensure customer requirements are clearly defined, documented, and translated into successful engineering execution.
- Develop and implement systems engineering processes and best practices across the organization.
- Establish structured requirements management and traceability processes.
- Define and improve product development and project lifecycle frameworks.
- Develop system architecture and documentation standards.
- Drive engineering process improvements that reduce rework and improve execution.
- Lead and mentor a team of R&D and systems engineers.
- Establish performance expectations and support professional development.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence.
- Participate in hiring and organizational growth initiatives.
- Lead the initiation and execution of new product development projects.
- Define project scope, objectives, and technical requirements.
- Help prioritize and manage the R&D portfolio.
- Support product testing, certification, and release activities.
- Partner closely with Sales and Project Management during project definition and early customer engagement.
- Translate customer needs into clear engineering requirements.
- Improve communication and handoffs between departments.
- Support organizational initiatives around planning, execution, and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 7 years of engineering experience in product development, systems engineering, or complex engineered products.
- 3 years of leadership experience managing technical teams or leading cross-functional engineering initiatives.
- Experience developing processes, improving engineering workflows, or implementing structured product development methodologies.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
- Systems engineering methodologies (INCOSE, ISO 15288, SPICE, A-SPICE, or similar frameworks)
- Industrial electrical systems or power distribution equipment
- Engineered-to-order (ETO) manufacturing environments
- Product lifecycle management (PLM/PDM) systems
- Requirements management and technical documentation systems
- UL, NEMA, or other product certification processes
- Custom equipment, industrial controls, switchgear, HVAC equipment, or integrated electrical systems
