Quality Electrical Systems (QES) is a leading electrical equipment manufacturer with over 30 years of experience serving global industrial markets. From our state-of-the-art 350,000 sq. ft. facility in West Jordan, Utah, we design and build custom electrical power and control systems for industries including data centers, oil & gas, water/wastewater, and mining.

We partner with major OEMs such as GE/ABB, Yaskawa, Danfoss, and TMEIC, delivering premium-grade, UL-certified electrical products worldwide.

Position Overview

We’re seeking an experienced AutoCAD Electrical Designer to join our Medium Voltage Switchgear design team. In this role, you’ll create and develop custom, industrial-grade switchgear systems that meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.

You’ll work closely with engineers and production teams to translate customer requirements into detailed electrical and mechanical designs that are accurate, manufacturable, and compliant with industry codes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop Medium Voltage Switchgear assemblies for industrial applications up to 4000 AMPs.
  • Produce AutoCAD Electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to ensure manufacturable, cost-effective designs.
  • Integrate load interrupter switches and metal-clad draw-out circuit breakers into switchgear layouts.
  • Support design of 12-gauge, fully welded enclosures meeting NEMA 1–4X standards.
  • Optimize switchgear configurations using QES’s compact 42-inch-deep design for Power Distribution Centers (PDCs).
  • Develop and maintain BOMs, panel layouts, and assembly documentation.
  • Ensure designs comply with UL 347 and ULC 37.20.2 standards.
  • Coordinate with OEM vendors for switchgear component integration and customization.
  • Participate in design reviews and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Drafting Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–7 years of experience in AutoCAD Electrical design for industrial or power distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of medium voltage (5–15kV) systems and protection schemes.
  • Familiarity with UL 347, ULC 37.20.2, and NEMA standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-lines, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with metal-enclosed or metal-clad switchgear design.
  • Background in custom electrical equipment manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with PLC, relay logic, and protective relaying design.
  • Exposure to arc-resistant gear or compact modular systems.
