DOT Safety & Compliance Specialist – EHS Trainer
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is part of our Safety and Compliance department in Greenwood, IN. You will leverage applications, tools, and industry best practices to support our facility of approximately 180 associates.
In this position, you will enjoy five (5) 8-hour shifts that likely will primarily be Monday through Friday but could include weekends and nights. Shifts may change based on business needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform daily Samsara system reviews to monitor driving behavior, incidents, and compliance issues
- Maintain driver files & ensure compliance through JJ Keller
- Maintain records & assist new hire safety orientations, ensuring all required safety training is completed
- Coordinate and document monthly safety meetings, including agendas, attendance logs, and follow‑up action items
- Document and file all Injury/Accident investigations through Intelex and Helmsman
- Conduct and track EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) assessments to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards
- Perform and document IFS assessments and support corrective action closure
- Manage and facilitate contractor safety orientations, ensuring required documentation and training are completed prior to site access
- Coordinate MHE (Material Handling Equipment) certifications, including tracking expiration dates and scheduling recertification
- Maintain monthly safety training records, ensuring timely completion and accurate documentation
- Attend and document monthly DOT calls and EHS informational calls, sharing key updates with leadership and affected teams
- Completing the monthly and quarterly facility inspections and some of the audits/inspections (food defense-site security-etc.) in safety culture
- Completing monthly facility tasks such as fire extinguishers checks/first aid checks/etc.
- Support daily sanitation record completion in safety culture
- Review pest control records and ensure compliance with frequency of service and CAPAs
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education and experience equivalent to:
Experience and Requirements:
- A minimum of 2 to 3 years of professional experience in transportation or food distribution, with
a focus on driver interaction, and including administrative responsibilities. - Prior dispatch experience is highly desirable.
- Experience in routing preferred
- Alternatively, a minimum of 1 year of administrative work, combined with 1 year of direct
experience at Quality Custom Distribution (QCD).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Management/Supervisory concepts and techniques
- Microsoft Office and other PC word-processing/spreadsheet software applications
- Shipment and distribution of food or allied products
- Samsara, onboard computer systems, computer-based routing systems, and/or other similar
systems - Driver dispatching, scheduling, and routing.
- DOT regulations, policies, and procedures
- Relevant safety policies, practices, and procedures
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Actionable problem solving
- Project management concepts and techniques
- Budgetary concepts and procedures
Skill and ability to:
- Support a diverse workforce of up to 65 drivers.
- Support management and motivate employees in a team-based environment.
- Prepare administrative and technical documents and reports.
- Limited travel via airplane and drive an automobile
- Must be able to work overnight, weekends and holidays.
