Structural Steel Fabrication Specialist
Location: Arlington, TN
Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Starting Pay: From $21.00/hour (higher starting pay based on experience)
Shift Differential: Additional 10% for 2nd Shift
Schedule
- 2nd Shift: Monday-Friday, 4:00 PM-3:00 AM
- Some Saturdays required based on production needs
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fabrication Specialist to join a busy fabrication shop. This position is ideal for someone who is skilled in reading fabrication drawings, fitting structural steel, and using a variety of fabrication equipment to produce high-quality steel components.
The ideal candidate has experience working with heavy structural materials and is committed to safety, precision, and meeting production deadlines.
\n- Interpret structural steel blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and layout specifications.
- Fit and assemble structural steel components such as beams, columns, stairs, railings, and miscellaneous metal products.
- Perform layout work, measuring, cutting, fitting, and assembly using accepted fabrication methods.
- Operate fabrication equipment, including:
- Ironworkers
- Magnetic drills (Mag Drills)
- Band saws
- Grinders
- Oxy-fuel torches
- Plasma cutters
- Other standard fabrication shop tools
- Tack and prepare steel assemblies for final welding.
- Safely operate overhead cranes, rigging equipment, and material handling systems to move structural steel.
- Inspect dimensions, alignment, squareness, and overall fit to ensure quality before welding and final assembly.
- Maintain an organized work area while following established safety procedures and production schedules.
- At least 2 years of experience in structural steel fitting and fabrication is preferred.
- Ability to accurately read structural steel blueprints, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols.
- Experience with structural layout, fit-up, and fabrication techniques.
- Knowledge of measuring tools, fabrication equipment, and shop machinery.
- Ability to safely handle heavy steel materials and remain on your feet throughout the workday.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented fabrication environment.
- Experience operating overhead cranes and rigging equipment.
- Experience performing Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) in a structural steel fabrication shop.
- Ability to produce clean, high-quality FCAW welds on structural steel components.
- Experience welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions using FCAW.
