Precision CNC Mill Machinist
Location: Baltimore, MD
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Starting Pay: From $28.00 per hour, with higher pay available depending on experience.
Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Precision CNC Mill Machinist to support the production of high-quality components used in industrial, marine, heavy equipment, and energy applications. This position is responsible for machine setup, CNC operation, program editing, part inspection, and continuous process improvement within a fast-paced job shop environment.
The ideal candidate has strong machining knowledge, enjoys solving production challenges, and is committed to producing precision parts that meet strict quality standards.
\nCNC Machining
- Perform complete machine setups on multi-axis CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines.
- Operate a variety of machining equipment, including CNC mills, lathes, drills, grinders, shaping equipment, and hand tools.
- Manufacture precision components while maintaining tolerances of approximately ± .002 inches.
- Read and interpret blueprints, machining drawings, work orders, and production documentation.
Programming & Manufacturing Support
- Edit existing CNC programs and create new programs to improve machining efficiency and reduce setup time.
- Design, maintain, and improve fixtures to support consistent, repeatable production.
- Work with production leadership to enhance tooling, fixtures, dies, and machining processes.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and setup issues while implementing effective solutions.
Quality & Production
- Inspect finished components using standard precision measuring instruments.
- Verify products meet customer specifications and quality requirements.
- Maintain production schedules while working independently with minimal supervision.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, and efficiency.
Equipment & Shop Safety
- Perform routine machine maintenance and basic equipment upkeep.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow established safety procedures and shop operating standards.
- Experience performing complete setups on multi-axis CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, machining drawings, and manufacturing instructions.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling selection, cutting speeds, feeds, and setup techniques.
- Experience inspecting finished parts using standard measuring equipment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a production environment.
- 3 or more years of experience editing existing CNC programs and creating new CNC programs.
- 4–5 years of experience designing, maintaining, and improving production fixtures.
- 3 or more years of experience using SolidWorks CAM PRO.
- Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel materials.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve machining and setup issues efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision machining.
