Purpose:
The Mohs Histotechnician is responsible for supporting Mohs micrographic surgery procedures by preparing and processing high-quality tissue specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis. The role requires precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cut frozen sections of tissue specimens using Mohs surgical techniques.
- Process and embed tissue samples efficiently for histopathological evaluation.
- Perform various staining techniques to prepare slides ensuring quality and consistency.
- Document procedures and maintain accurate records.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety and CLIA regulatory standards.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Collaborate with surgical and clinical teams to facilitate smooth Mohs procedures.
- Provide guidance and training to laboratory staff as needed.
- Participate in continuing education to maintain and improve histotechnical skills.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the laboratory supervisor or team lead.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Histotechnology or a related field.
- ASCP Histotechnologist (HTL) certification preferred.
- Previous experience in a Mohs histotechnology laboratory strongly preferred.
- Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
