Position Summary:
The Vice President of Accounting Operations is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing all financial management and administrative functions related to the company’s asset-holding entities and operational accounting departments. This role provides strategic direction, leadership, and accountability for the Controller overseeing asset holding businesses, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Payroll departments to ensure accurate financial reporting, efficient processes, and strong internal controls.
The Vice President of Accounting Operations will play a critical role in optimizing cash flow, safeguarding company assets, and supporting growth across all business units.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Controller and staff overseeing asset-holding businesses, ensuring accurate consolidation, reporting, cash management, and compliance with accounting standards.
- Oversee the Accounts Payable Supervisor and staff, ensuring timely and accurate processing, vendor relations management, and adherence to purchasing and payment policies.
- Direct two Purchasing Supervisors and their teams in maintaining efficient procurement operations, cost control, and compliance with company purchasing standards.
- Lead the Payroll Supervisor and staff to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing for all employees.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular analysis and reporting to the CFO and executive team.
- Ensure the timely and accurate processing of product acquisition, accounts payable disbursements, and payroll.
- Partner with Controllers, Vice President of Finance, and executive leadership to establish best practices, streamline processes, and deliver timely and reliable financial information.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems to strengthen financial controls, improve efficiency, and ensure consistency across departments.
- Establish and enforce strong purchasing controls to ensure all commitments are properly approved, coded, and supported before payment.
- Ensures product, items, materials remain in stock and ready for use
- Ensure effective training, performance management, and development of department leaders and staff.
- Maintain strong internal controls to protect company assets and prevent fraud or error.
- Review and approve key financial transactions, vendor contracts, and purchasing commitments within authority limits.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, payroll laws, and corporate policies.
- Leverage accounting software and other technology tools to drive efficiently.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the CFO.
Position Requirements
Experience, Educational, and Additional Requirements:
- Pass mandatory drug test required.
- Must have at least 8-years of progressive accounting or finance experience with at least 3 years in a senior leadership or VP level role.
- Construction accounting experience preferred
- Must have a sound understanding of financial reporting.
- Must be competent in Mathematics and can interpret complex financial concepts.
- Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Must have a BA degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or other type of related field of study. Master’s level preferred
- Must have the ability to lead a team of employees involving hiring, terminating, disciplining, and completing performance evaluations.
- Operational knowledge of Microsoft Office products and Vista Viewpoint
- Ability to multitask, and be detail orientated, and work well under pressure.
- Must be organized and demonstrate the ability to work with limited supervision.
