What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Structural Engineer position at QuakeWrap, Inc.?
Structural / Civil Engineer
Location: Tucson, Arizona
About the Company
QuakeWrap Inc. specializes in structural repair and strengthening using Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials and systems. The company works on a wide range of structures, including buildings, bridges, pipelines, ports, piers, seawalls, and other infrastructures.
With over 20 patents, our solutions have been used on over 1,000 projects in 28 countries on a wide range of structures, including buildings, bridges, pipelines, ports, piers, and seawalls.
QuakeWrap combines structural engineering with materials development, testing, manufacturing, and support for contractors using its systems in the field.
The engineering team works across a variety of projects rather than spending months or years focused on a single assignment. This gives engineers exposure to different structures, design challenges, clients, and project conditions.
Role Overview
QuakeWrap is looking for a Civil or Structural Engineer to join its engineering team in Tucson.
This is an opportunity to build hands-on structural engineering experience while learning a specialized area of infrastructure repair and strengthening. You do not need previous experience designing with QuakeWrap's FRP systems. The team will train you on its specific products and design approaches.
You will work on real structural problems and help develop practical repair and strengthening solutions. Depending on the project, this may involve understanding existing structural conditions, performing calculations and analysis, developing drawings and design documentation, and working with clients, consulting engineers, and contractors.
The role works closely with QuakeWrap's engineering team and reports directly to the company president.
Responsibilities
- Develop structural repair and strengthening solutions for infrastructure, industrial, commercial, and other structures.
- Perform structural analysis, design calculations, detailing, and drafting.
- Translate project requirements and existing structural conditions into clear engineering calculations, drawings, reports, and construction documents.
- Apply concrete and steel structural design principles while learning QuakeWrap's specialized FRP design methods.
- Support field investigations, engineering studies, material take-offs, and other work needed to develop project solutions.
- Review engineering drawings and project documentation and contribute to the preparation of design reports and construction documents.
- Work directly with clients, consulting engineers, contractors, and coworkers throughout the project.
- Visit project sites when needed to understand field conditions and provide engineering support.
- Travel domestically and internationally when required for project work.
- As your knowledge of QuakeWrap's systems grows, participate in client conversations, conferences, trade shows, and other professional settings.
- Manage your work across multiple projects while collaborating closely with a small engineering team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural engineering background or emphasis.
- Foundation in structural analysis and design, including concrete and steel structures.

- Understanding of engineering drawings and construction documents.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly in writing and conversation.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, consulting engineers, and coworkers.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to project sites when needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a structural engineering or design environment.
- Experience preparing or editing engineering drawings, calculations, design reports, or construction documents.
- Knowledge of timber or wood structural design.
- Exposure to FRP materials, structural repair, rehabilitation, or strengthening.
- EIT for U.S. engineering graduates.
- Experience interacting with clients or communicating technical work to others.
