Position Summary
The Animal Caretaker and Adoption Counselor plays a vital role in providing compassionate care to shelter animals while helping connect them with loving forever homes. Key Responsibilities
Animal Care
- Provide daily care for dogs, cats, and other animals including feeding, watering, and monitoring health
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and animal areas following shelter protocols
- Observe animals for signs of illness, stress, or behavioral concerns and report to management
- Provide enrichment, socialization, and exercise for animals
- Assist with animal intake and processing
- Maintain clean laundry, dishes, and general shelter housekeeping
- Follow all safety and disease prevention procedures
Adoption Counseling
- Greet visitors in a friendly and professional manner
- Assist potential adopters in selecting appropriate pets for their homes and lifestyles
- Educate adopters on animal behavior, care, and transition into a new home
- Facilitate meet and greets between adopters and animals
- Complete adoption paperwork and process transactions
- Promote responsible pet ownership and shelter programs
- Help maintain accurate animal records
