What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Paraprofessional position at Quabbin Regional School District - Massachusetts?
Responsibilities:
- Assist the special education teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students. Positions available in Therapeutic classroom at the secondary level and various positions open in our SOAR ASD focused classrooms.
- Provide support and assistance to students with disabilities in various academic and non-academic activities. Assist with ADLs and toileting when needed.
- Collaborate with the teacher to develop and modify curriculum materials to meet the needs of students. Aid in transitioning students into inclusion classrooms.
- Assist with classroom management and behavior support strategies. Collect data and follow behavior plans that are specific to the student.
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to reinforce learning concepts
- Support students in developing social skills and promoting positive peer interactions
- Assist with the preparation of materials and resources for lessons and activities
- Monitor student progress and document observations for progress reports
- Therapeutic classroom paraprofessionals are hired to work 182 days a school year. SOAR classroom paraprofessionals are required to work 212 days a year.
Skills:
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, teachers, and parents/guardians
- Must be able to complete CALM de-escalation and restraint training
- Patience and empathy when working with students with diverse learning needs
- Ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet individual student needs
- Organizational skills to assist with lesson planning and curriculum development
- Knowledge of math, literacy education, and curriculum development is a plus
- Experience working with children with behavioral and/or learning challenges preferred
