Position Overview:
Capital Projects is responsible for planning, developing, and executing capital improvement projects from initial concept through final completion. This role manages an annual capital budget of approximately $1.25 million and ensures that all projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with organizational goals. The Project Engineer works cross functionally with operations, maintenance, finance, and external contractors to drive successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
• Identify, scope, and prioritize capital projects based on operational needs, asset condition, and strategic objectives.
• Conduct feasibility studies, cost estimates, ROI analyses, and risk assessments.
• Develop project charters, preliminary designs, and capital funding requests.
• Lead projects from initiation through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
• Prepare detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
• Manage contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants, ensuring compliance with specifications and safety requirements.
• Oversee procurement of materials, equipment, and services in accordance with company policies.
• Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and safety.
• Manage an annual capital budget of approximately $1 million.
• Track project costs, approve invoices, and maintain accurate financial documentation.
• Identify cost saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
• Prepare and present project updates to leadership and stakeholders.
• Maintain clear documentation including project plans, change orders, risk logs, and closeout reports.
• Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to ensure smooth project integration.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Industrial, or related field).
• 3–7 years of experience in project engineering or capital project management.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong understanding of project management principles, budgeting, and scheduling.
• Experience working with contractors, vendors, and engineering firms.
• Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, or similar).
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem solving skills.
• Experience in manufacturing, industrial facilities, utilities, or similar environments.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or other design software.
