The CMPT business is seeking a Manufacturing Technology & Automation Engineer to join the Manufacturing Technology (MT) Metrology group in Newark, Delaware. This role supports the development, implementation, qualification, and operation of Metrology, Inspection, and Automated Measurement Systems that enable improved manufacturing process control, product quality, and continuous improvement.
The MT Metrology team collaborates closely with Quality Control laboratories, manufacturing operations, and engineering groups. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, hands-on, safety-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while collaborating technically with other engineers and exercising independent judgment in execution.

Key Responsibilities
Equipment & Metrology Development
- Design and develop proof-of-concept systems to validate automation solutions for high-volume manufacturing.
- Install and configure metrology and automation equipment following electromechanical and technical assembly instructions.
- Implement a variety of metrology and measurement systems using different hardware and software interfaces.
- Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
- Document system architecture, test protocols, and technical specifications.
- Instruct equipment calibration, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
- Execute testing to support method development, process troubleshooting, and inspection improvement.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize data to support technical evaluations and decision-making.
- Create procedures and documentation for measurement methods, calibration, maintenance, and system operation.
- Train manufacturing and operations personnel on metrology methods, equipment usage, and best practices.
- Work closely with cross-functional global teams including engineers, QC labs, and manufacturing operations.
- Identify issues, conduct Root Cause Investigation and provide solutions, and support manufacturing plants on issue resolution
- Associate (AS) or Bachelor’s (BS) degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering or other relevant discipline and work experiences
- Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred in a manufacturing or R&D technical role.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Critical thinking and structured problem-solving ability.
- Commitment to safety and ability to work safely in laboratory and manufacturing environments.
- High ethical standards with demonstrated data integrity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to learn new systems.
- MS in ME, EE, ChemE and relevant disciplines
- Experience with metrology or mechanical testing tools (e.g., laser metrology, microscopes, surface characterization).
- Prior experience with mechatronics and 3D SolidWorks for mechanical design, drawing, and assembly is a plus
- Knowledge in maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical or measurement equipment.
- Exposure to automation or process control systems (e.g., HMI, PLC).
- Experience with equipment integration or mechanical component design.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma or DMAIC methodologies.
- Experience in quality control testing.
- Manufacturing experience in semiconductor or related industries.
- Working knowledge of data analysis and reporting software tools.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks and assignments based on business priorities.
- Willingness to work with chemicals, polymers, and analytical or mechanical tools.
- Ability to work throughout a manufacturing plant with varied temperatures and humidity.
- Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts, fume hoods, and loud equipment.
