Job Summary
Position Summary This position will ensure the proper organization and storage of the documents while minimizing the risk of damage. When necessary, you will also oversee the digitizing of certain articles to make them more easily accessible to researchers and the public. Our ideal applicant has some college/education in library science and several years of professional experience working as an Archivist.
Essential Functions
- Knowledgeable in handling of specimens from accessioning to final specimen storage
- Files specimen blocks and slides for storage
- Retrieves specimen block and/or slides upon request
- Complies with all Federal and State regulations
- Can perform all duties of Laboratory Aide
- Communicates problems and possible solutions to the Histology Department Manager/Supervisor

Education, Experience and Skills Required
- Normally requires a high school diploma or equivalent 1-3 years of lab experience
- Solid technical skills and a working knowledge of computers, laboratory organization, all departmental operational policies, and procedures.
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to cooperative inter-personal working relationships with laboratory staff, management, and peers.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills necessary for high degree of department specific analytical, technical, and multi-tasking skills
- Dependability, flexibility, and adaptability in all aspects of laboratory responsibilities and scheduling hours.
- Works with moderate supervision
- Most of the accessible information is confidential patient records.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to life up to 30 pounds
- Extended periods of standing and/or sitting
- Requires excellent hand and eye coordination with considerable finger dexterity is necessary for constant use of hands and fingers to operate assorted laboratory instrumentation.
Working Conditions
- Typical medical laboratory environment with some risk of exposure to toxic/caustic fumes/particles. Possible exposure to minor airborne fumes from medical specimen handling. All specimens are FFPE (formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded), which may pose minimal infectious risk. Minimal chemical exposure (formalin, xylene, and alcohol fumes).
- Moderate noise (e.g., office with phones ringing, photocopiers, heavy personnel “traffic”, automated lab instruments, fume exhaust hoods, phone conversations), significant verbal communication due to group problem solving efforts and training.
- OSHA Category 1: Involves regular exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
