What are the responsibilities and job description for the TPO Business Analyst position at Qcells?
Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION:We are looking for a TPO Business Analyst to join our TPO Business Strategy team to serve as the analytical engine connecting product development, operations, and enterprise partner feedback. This role will own product and process gap analysis — identifying where our TPO platform falls short against enterprise partner needs, investor requirements, and operational best practices — and translate those findings into actionable requirements for engineering and process improvements for operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in solar finance, business analysis, or operations and will work across Product, Engineering, Operations, Capital Markets, and Risk teams.
This position will be based out of San Francisco, CA or Santa Clara, CA with an in-office schedule set at the direct manager’s discretion in accordance with the company policies and procedures. Remote may be considered in exceptional cases.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Conduct end-to-end product and process gap analyses by mapping the TPO customer journey (sale creation through asset onboarding), identifying structural gaps, and categorizing them by severity and business impact — similar in scope to internal initiatives like Project Clarity.
- Translate voice-of-customer feedback from enterprise installer partners and investor/capital markets stakeholders into structured product requirements and operational process change proposals for Engineering and Operations teams.
- Own change order and milestone enforcement analysis — evaluate current process controls (e.g., CO enforcement at NTP, M2 as-built verification, Year 1 kWh reconciliation), identify attack vectors and failure modes, and design minimum viable fixes that require no or minimal engineering development.
- Build detailed gap analysis deliverables (Word docs, Excel models, process flow diagrams) that clearly articulate current state vs. target state, root cause, and prioritized remediation paths with implementation timelines.
- Partner with the Operations team to redesign operational process flows when gaps are identified — drafting new SOPs, updating milestone checklists, and coordinating rollout across QSS and internal ops stakeholders.
- Support product development prioritization by maintaining a living backlog of product gaps mapped to partner impact, investor risk, and revenue exposure — enabling data-driven sprint planning conversations with Engineering.
- Analyze PI (Partner Installer) behavior patterns using Salesforce data to identify systemic risks such as production overstatement, CO circumvention, and documentation non-compliance, and recommend systemic controls.
- Participate in cross-functional project meetings (e.g., CLS issue mapping, PMO-led initiatives) and produce structured meeting notes, action item trackers, and follow-up deliverables.
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, data analytics, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in business analysis, operations analysis, management consulting, or strategy/operations role in solar finance, fintech, or financial services.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to map complex multi-step processes, identify failure points, and propose structured solutions — comfort with process flow mapping and root cause analysis.
- Proficiency in Excel (financial modeling, data analysis) and PowerPoint (structured presentations for leadership audiences).
- Excellent written communication — ability to produce clear, structured gap analysis documents, SOPs, and requirements specifications.
- Comfort working across multiple teams simultaneously (Product, Engineering, Operations, Capital Markets) in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in residential solar TPO operations, loan servicing, or asset management — familiarity with milestone-based workflows (NTP, M1, M2, M3).
- Familiarity with Salesforce as a system of record and experience pulling operational data for analysis.
- Exposure to investor reporting, capital markets due diligence, or portfolio quality analysis in a renewable energy or structured finance context.
- Experience with process improvement frameworks (Lean, Six Sigma) or project management tools (Jira, Asana, Miro).
- SQL or BI tool experience (Tableau, Looker) for operational data analysis is a plus.
