ELECTRICAL DESIGNER - LEVEL 3

Summary

The Electrical Designer Level 3 is responsible for developing and optimizing electrical designs, interconnection studies, and power distribution layouts for utility-scale solar and BESS projects. This role requires proficiency in large-scale electrical system design, grounding design, cable routing, and protective device coordination.

The Designer 3 will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including structural, permitting, and procurement teams, to ensure efficient and compliant electrical designs.

This position reports to the Manager of Electrical Engineering, or another management personnel that the CEO of the Company may designate. This position reports to the Irvine, CA office but will maintain a hybrid schedule of working out of their home office and the Irvine, CA office. Working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time.

Essential Job Function & Responsibilities

  • Electrical System Design
  • Complete design tasks related to utility scale solar and BESS projects independently.
  • Coordinate with Engineering teams, construction managers and permitting agencies.
  • Conduct site visits to validate project designs.
  • Lead evaluation and assessment of project locations and design requirements.
  • Support QA/QC reviews of design drawings, plans, construction documentation to ensure alignment with EPC execution requirements.
  • Coordination and Documentation
  • Take ownership of design drawings and reports.
  • Support cross-functional teams in permitting procurement and construction planning.
  • Interpret and adhere to design standards (federal, state and owner driven).
  • Complete utility-scale solar and BESS permitting, site optimization techniques and modeling.
  • Contribute to best practices and implement regulatory changes.
  • Work Quality
  • Consistently produces error-free drawings and documentation.
  • Anticipates design issues and avoids recurring mistakes.
  • Suggest improvements to drawing templates, CAD standards or processes.
  • Time Management
  • Accurately estimates time to complete full drawing packages.
  • Plans work to meet deadlines for design deliverables and stay on track.
  • Reviewing Capability
  • Thoroughly reviews and redlines complete drawing packages.
  • Reviewed work rarely requires detailed secondary review.
  • Leadership
  • Mentors’ juror designers and teach standard CAD and documentation procedures.
  • Provides and receives feedback effectively.
  • Holds peers accountable to QCells core values.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in solar electrical design.
  • Experience with PV and BESS site design.
  • Software Skills:
  • AutoCAD (Intermediate proficiency)
  • PVCase or similar (preferred)
  • Certifications: AutoCAD certification (Optional).

The above-listed salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position and only pertains to the candidate if they work in Irvine, CA. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. If candidates are considered for a nationwide role, then the compensation range will follow the marketability of the job function within those states. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
