Overall Responsibility
The Die Maker fabricates, assembles, and maintains progressive, transfer, and hand-transfer dies according to engineering specifications. The role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to deliver high-quality dies on time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand and follow the company Quality Management System.
- Study specifications such as blueprints to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
- Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly methods and sequence of operations.
- Ensure established quality procedures are implemented during the build process.
- Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders to machine parts, verifying conformance to specifications.
- Verify dimensions, alignments, quality, and clearances of parts.
- Adhere to safety and housekeeping guidelines.
- Maintain appropriate documentation as required.
- Track work time and job time using Global Shop (GSS).
- Train, coordinate, and assist other team members as needed.
- Support customer run-off requirements.
- Travel as required.
- Ensure on-time delivery of dies and components.
- Identify, suggest, and implement ideas for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with management to achieve short- and long-term objectives.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills Required
- General machining experience.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Ability to work effectively with others in a shop environment.
- Ability to build, develop, and try out stamping dies.
- Proficiency in using precision measurement tools as required.
Certifications and Education
- High School Diploma or GED required; additional technical training or vocational school in machining or tool & die preferred.
- Journeyman’s card preferred.
- Hi-lo and overhead crane certifications to be obtained within 30 days of hire preferred.
- Ability to travel and a valid passport preferred.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
- Frequently required to walk.
- Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; push/pull up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to perceive and analyze details of dies using close, distance, and peripheral vision.
