We pride ourselves on precision, craftsmanship, and innovation, and are seeking a skilled Die Designer to help create tooling that meets and exceeds customer expectations.
Overall Responsibility
The Die Designer is responsible for laying out, designing, and detailing tooling according to customer specifications using the company’s chosen CAD system. This role also maintains updates and revisions on customer die modifications.
Areas of Responsibility
- Understand and follow the company Quality System.
- Design transfer, progressive, and hand-transfer stamping dies.
- Review designs for accuracy, functionality, and manufacturability.
- Provide die designs suitable for build purposes.
- Maintain CAD models and update design revisions as required.
- Identify, suggest, and implement ideas for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with management to achieve short- and long-term objectives.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Track work time and job time within Global Shop (GSS).
Skills Preferred
- Strong understanding of the tool-making process.
- Competent use of computer operating systems.
- Ability to create viable solid model die designs from 3D CAD part models.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software.
- Effective problem-solving skills and self-starter mindset.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all departments.
Preferred Certificates & Education
- High School Diploma / GED required.
- Associate degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, or related field preferred.
- CAD software training courses preferred.
Essential Functions
- Produce high-quality detailed drawings for build purposes.
- Create part prints for quote purposes.
- Develop 3D CAD models for CAM operation die details.
- Update CAD models to reflect engineering changes.
- Maintain documentation and archives as required.
- Provide CAD support to Die Makers as needed.
- Establish strip layouts as required.
- Download, log, and process incoming customer CAD data.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
- Frequently required to walk.
- Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Must occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds; push/pull up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to perceive and analyze details of dies using close, distance, and peripheral vision.
