Summary/Objective

The Seasonal Exterior Home Services Technician (Residential Seal Technician) is responsible for the preparation, sanding, sealing, and final cleanup of wooden outdoor structures such as decks, fences, pergolas, and more. This field-based role ensures the professional execution of sealing services while maintaining safety, quality, and customer satisfaction standards.

Technicians work independently or as part of a team and are expected to follow detailed work orders and safety protocols using mobile technology and company tools. The ideal candidate is physically capable, attentive to detail, safety-conscious, and takes pride in delivering high-quality service.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Trip & Route Preparation

  • Prepare for daily assignments by reviewing route information and assigned jobs in the company’s mobile job tracking system.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are prepared for the day, including all necessary tools, materials, and systems checklists.
  • Coordinate with supervisors on any updates or adjustments to the day’s schedule.

On-Site Operations

  • Execute assigned residential jobs efficiently, following company procedures and quality standards.
  • Protect customer property by using approved covering materials and handling furniture/landscaping carefully.
  • Conduct visual inspections of work areas to identify potential hazards or special requirements.

Uniform, PPE, and Professional Appearance Standards

· Maintain a clean and professional appearance by wearing all issued uniform items, including ID badges, fully, neatly, and visibly while on duty, and using required PPE to ensure safe and effective job performance.

Surface Preparation & Application

  • Perform surface preparation, sanding, and cleaning tasks according to training and company standards.
  • Apply stains, sealants, or coatings accurately, following approved techniques for each surface type.
  • Ensure consistency and quality across all assigned projects.

Records & Reporting

  • Record job progress, including start and completion times, in the company’s mobile system.
  • Capture before-and-after photos and update work order information as required.
  • Submit completed records electronically to supervisors at the end of each shift.

Equipment & Vehicle Management

  • Operate company vehicles and equipment safely, following all traffic laws and company safety guidelines.
  • Report any equipment, vehicle, or job-related issues promptly to a supervisor.
  • Maintain tools and vehicles in clean, operational condition.

Customer Interaction

  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding job status, questions, or concerns.
  • Conduct final walkthroughs to confirm satisfaction with completed work.

End-of-Shift Responsibilities

  • Return vehicles and equipment to designated locations, ensuring all digital records and materials are secured.
  • Report any outstanding issues or follow-ups to supervisors to support smooth next-day operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not supervise other employees.

Work Environment

This is a field-based role, primarily outdoors and subject to seasonal weather conditions. Exposure to chemicals, stains, tools, and power equipment is routine. Work is physically demanding and includes repetitive motion, bending, lifting, and long periods on foot.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, squatting, and overhead work.
  • Extended standing or walking on uneven outdoor surfaces.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in variable weather.

Schedule and Availability

This is a seasonal, temporary, full-time position lasting approximately 6–8 months, typically during the outdoor service season. Employment does not guarantee ongoing or year-round work beyond the season.

Start times may vary daily depending on the job location. Overtime, weekend, and evening availability may be required during peak periods.

Travel

Technicians will travel between job sites using company vehicles and follow assigned routes according to schedule.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Ability to follow detailed job instructions and digital documentation
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality
  • Physical ability to perform labor-intensive outdoor work
  • Comfort using mobile apps

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in staining, sealing, painting, or exterior home services
  • Experience with sanding tools, hand tools, or job site prep
  • Knowledge of surface prep, coating, or similar trade work
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $17.00 – $20.00 per hour
  • Employees accrue paid sick leave as required by Illinois’ Paid Leave for All Workers Act (PLAWA). No additional PTO is provided.

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
