Operations Manager
Exempt
Reports To: Regional Operations Manager & VP of Operations
Mobile, Alabama
Operations Manager is to oversee the safe and efficient processing of chemicals in our industrial settings & to assist the Area Manager with the operation of the facility. This role is responsible for ensuring that all chemicals are handled and stored correctly, supervising teams of workers and monitoring their performance, and ensuring that safety regulations are followed. The Operations Manager must also be able to identify and troubleshoot any potential safety issues that arise.

Competencies
Knowledge of:
- General processing/operations principles.
- Usage and handling of compressed gases and industrial chemicals.
- S. Department of Transportation regulations if driving
Skill in:

- Load and unload vehicles, using pallet jacks, forklifts and other equipment

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Prepares work schedules
- Schedules inter-district shipments
- Completes monthly inventories
- Enforces compliance with regulations and policies
- Supervises bleach manufacturing and compressed gas operations
- Enforces safe work practices and the use of personal protective equipment
- Orders and/or schedules the delivery of raw materials and products
- Assists with EPA and Homeland Security audits
- Prepares reports
- Conducts safety meetings
- Assists with training
- Maintains vehicle files
Major Duties/Critical Tasks Dependent on Structure and Size of Facility:
- Supervises bulk shipments
- Assists with hiring
- Supervises laboratory operations
- Performs safety inspections
- Schedules vehicle maintenance
- Assists in the packaging, manufacturing and loading areas
- Dispatches and supervises truck drivers
- Maintains daily inventories
- Maintains personnel files
- Monitors tank farm operations

Worker may be exposed to:
- Hazardous materials, Bleach, caustic, HCl and chlorine gas
- Outdoor weather conditions, working in salt yard and changing roof filters
- Work irregular hours, swing shifts, Day and Night Shifts with 12-hour shifts
Physical demands
- Climbs ladders to examine equipment.
- Frequently exerting forces equivalent to lifting up to approximately 50 pounds or occasionally 100 pounds.
- Stands in place for long periods of time while performing reconditioning and filling tasks
- Performs activities requiring finger dexterity, such as rebuilding or replacing valves
- Packaging tasks require stamina, due to almost continuous movement of the fingers, hands, and/or arms
Mental Processes
- Performs reconditioning and filling tasks that must be performed in the proper sequence
- Completes filling logs and other plant reports
- Solves problems requiring analysis of operations policies and procedures.
- Communicates policies, procedures, safety rules, and government regulations to operations employees.

- Safety concerns require quick and immediate response to certain situations, such as spills or leaks
- Frequently involved in interpersonal or social situations involving advising, persuading, or supervising.

Position may require participation in community outreach activities and programs; public speaking and presentations to community/civic organizations may be expected
Travel required
- Travel to other plants may be required based on business needs
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma Required some college credit hours Preferred
- Two to five years’ experience in a chemical processing and/or chemical packaging plant or warehouse Required
- Two to five years’ experience in a supervisory role Required
- Ability to work overtime & a rotating schedule (additional hours, holidays and weekends based on business needs) Required
- Pre-employment testing, drug screen and physical exam Required
- Company satisfactory criminal background and MVR Required
- Reliable transportation Required
- Forklift certification, emergency response training (24-hour tech level) team leader or member certification, first aid, CPR certification, are all Required after hire
