The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients and menu components according to company recipes and standards. This role ensures stations are properly stocked and organized while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment. Prep Cooks play a key role in supporting kitchen operations and ensuring food is prepared efficiently and to quality expectations.
Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients for service, including chopping, portioning, mixing, and measuring
- Set up and stock stations with necessary supplies before each shift
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep areas throughout the shift
- Label, date, and store all food items properly for freshness and safety
- Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines
- Work quickly and efficiently to support timely food preparation
- Communicate equipment, product, or supply needs to management promptly
- Assist in training new kitchen team members when requested
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
- Previous experience in a high-volume kitchen preferred; multiple station experience a plus
- Strong understanding of basic cooking and preparation methods, ingredients, and kitchen equipment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
- Excellent teamwork, organization, and communication skills
- Safe Food Handler certification preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Fast-paced kitchen environment with exposure to heat, humidity, and wet floors
- Requires standing and walking for extended periods
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Frequent handwashing and use of gloves required
- Schedule includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
