Organization Description: The Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center (WRC) is a not for profit agency, that has been serving victims of domestic and sexual violence in Putnam and Northern Westchester NY for the last 46 years.
Position Available : Shelter Director
The Shelter Director is a full-time position that is responsible for the chief administrative and operations duties of the shelter.
The WRC is seeking a responsible self-motivated individual with the desire to supervise, guide and provide support to residents and staff of the shelter, both independently and as part of a larger team.
Key Responsibilities
- Staffing, recruitment, supervision and scheduling on site 24-hour staff.
- Overseeing all aspects of the physical plant including property maintenance and repairs.
- Coordination of shelter specific financial planning and expenditures, including petty cash, billing, reports, donations, supplies, etc.
- Ensuring confidentiality of the shelter and its residents is maintained.
- Overall Health and safety of the shelter residents and employees.
- Responsible for compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations and grant requirements as they relate to the administration of the shelter. This includes upholding and enforcing all agency and shelter policies and procedures and regulations.
- Ensure cleanliness of the shelter premises at all times.
- Responsible for working collaboratively with ALL WRC staff/team members. This includes attending all required meetings.
- Ensures inventory is kept of all household items.
- Develops and/or maintains relationships/communication with shelter vendors.
- Trains and orients new staff to their specific job duties and provides in-service training as needed.
- Ensures all documentation, required paperwork and hire information is submitted or requested as specified by regs and policies
- On-call 24/7 for all shelter issues and emergencies.
- Financial and record keeping responsibilities.
- Ensures times sheets are completed/submitted and approved in a timely fashion.
- All other duties as needed.
Education:
Bachelor degree required, preferably in the social service field.
Skills and Experience Needed:
- A minimum of 1 year supervisory experience a must.
- Must be computer literate.
- Must be able to work some flexible hours and on call as needed.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Residential program experience and supervision preferred.
- Experience with physical plant (residential house) and property maintenance preferred.
- Crisis intervention, housing assistance, residential intakes, database completion, hot line phone coverage, transportation, advocacy knowledge a plus.
- Administrative knowledge a plus.
- Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
