Job description
Corrections Deputies perform inmate care and custody duties while maintaining security at the Facility. Corrections Deputies perform receive and work under supervision of trained and experienced corrections personnel which involves booking, custody, and release of inmates. Responsibilities also include enforcing security rules, regulations, and procedures within the secure confines of the Jail Facility.
Receive, search, book, fingerprint, and photograph incoming prisoners. Issue jail uniforms, record and store personal effects, and house inmates by appropriate classification.
Maintain jail security through observation of inmates, pat searches, strip searches, and cell searches. Maintain orderly conduct and discipline. Assure inmates have access to basic needs for hygiene and welfare.
Prepare and deliver prisoners to court, doctors' offices, hospitals, and other locations.
Release prisoners by established procedures on bail, court order, or other authority.
Maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance, monitor video and audio surveillance equipment and other job-related equipment.
Attend training and shift meetings. Apply job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities on duty maintain personal control of issued agency equipment.
Knowledge and understanding of:
Correctional Facility Operations
Local, State, and Federal laws concerning Criminal Justice System
T.C.I. Minimum Standards
Emergency procedures, universal precautions and first aid.
Facility layout including location of sally port controls, cell locks, control panels, secure perimeters, and emergency and safety equipment.
Policy and Procedures of the Putnam County Jail.
Skill in:
The use of computers, two-way radio communication, and various other equipment to perform daily functions of position.
Operation and use of modern law enforcement protective devices, handguns, chemical sprays, and restraint equipment.
Interacting with individuals of varied social, economic, and cultural backgrounds
Ability to:
React to physical confrontation and emergency situations quickly. Perform the physically demanding requirements of the job. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Compose and complete incident reports, organizing details logically
Qualifications:
Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older
Must possess a valid and current State of Tennessee drivers license
Be a citizen of the United States, or permanent legal resident of the United States
Be a High School Graduate or possess equivalent
Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician. Have a good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation conducted by the employing agency
Not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to a felony. Must be able to pass a drug screen.
