Safety Specialist

Position Summary

The EHS Technician is the day-to-day, on-the-floor extension of the company's safety function. Working under the direction of the EHS Manager, you keep safety visible and active at your site: facilitating the training, programs, and procedures the EHS Manager introduces, conducting routine inspections, maintaining safety records and training documentation, and supporting incident investigations.

This is an execution role, not a program-design role. The EHS Manager sets the standards, writes the policies, and owns the roadmap; you carry them onto the floor – facilitating the training, rolling out the procedures, and making those standards real – checking that guarding is in place, that lockout/tagout is being followed, that eyewash stations work, that training records are current, and that hazards get reported and closed out rather than tolerated.

It is also a growth role. As the company's safety function is built from the ground up, you will get exposure to program development, regulatory compliance, and multi-site standardization – the foundation for advancing into an EHS Specialist or Coordinator role over time.

What Makes This Role Different

· You are building alongside, not maintaining. The safety function is new – you will help stand up programs rather than inherit finished ones.

· Close mentorship. You work directly with the EHS Manager, with real coaching and a clear development path.

· Visible on the floor. Supervisors and operators will know you by name; you are the first safety contact at your site.

· Broad exposure. Manufacturing, chemical handling, contractor oversight, emergency preparedness, and regulatory recordkeeping – all in one role.

Essential Responsibilities

Daily Safety Presence & Inspections

· Conduct routine safety walkthroughs and documented inspections of production areas, shops, labs, and storage areas.

· Verify machine guarding, lockout/tagout, PPE use, chemical storage and labeling, and housekeeping standards are being followed.

· Check and maintain safety equipment – eyewash stations, safety showers, fire extinguishers, spill kits, first aid supplies, and emergency exits.

· Log findings, assign or escalate corrective actions, and follow up until issues are closed.

Records, Documentation & Compliance Support

· Maintain safety records, inspection logs, training rosters, SDS files, and chemical inventories.

· Support OSHA and Cal/OSHA recordkeeping, including OSHA 300 log entries and injury documentation, under the EHS Manager's direction.

· Compile data for monthly safety metrics and reporting.

· Help prepare for regulatory inspections and internal audits, and support corrective actions that follow.

Training & Program Facilitation

· Deliver new-hire safety orientation and recurring toolbox talks at your site.

· Facilitate the training, programs, and procedures introduced by the EHS Manager – scheduling sessions, briefing supervisors, and making sure each rollout actually lands with the crews on your shift.

· Reinforce new procedures on the floor after rollout, answer employee questions, and report back to the EHS Manager on what is working and where adoption is lagging.

· Schedule and track required training, and flag employees approaching expiration.

· Assist the EHS Manager in developing training materials, job aids, and signage.

Incident Response & Investigation Support

· Respond to injuries, near misses, spills, and property damage events; secure the area and gather initial facts, photos, and witness statements.

· Support root cause analysis and document investigation findings.

· Track corrective actions to completion and verify they are working.

· Circulate lessons learned to supervisors and employees at your site.

Hazard Identification & Program Support

· Participate in Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and hazard assessments; recommend practical controls.

· Support rollout of lockout/tagout, confined space, chemical safety, machine guarding, ergonomics, and emergency preparedness programs.

· Coordinate contractor safety orientation and monitor contractor work on site.

· Assist with emergency drills and after-action follow-up.

Qualifications

Required

· High school diploma or GED; coursework or a certificate in Occupational Safety, EHS, Industrial Technology, or a related field is a plus.

· 1 years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, warehouse, or military environment, with exposure to safety practices.

· Basic familiarity with OSHA general industry requirements and common industrial hazards.

· Comfortable spending most of the day on the production floor rather than at a desk.

· Solid written and verbal communication skills; able to write a clear inspection note and speak up to a supervisor about an unsafe condition.

· Organized and reliable with recordkeeping; competent with Microsoft Office or similar tools.

· Based at the Prescott, AZ site; valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally to the San Jose-area, CA facilities, including by air as required.

Preferred

· Associate's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field.

· OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour certification.

· First aid / CPR / AED certification, or emergency response experience.

· Experience with hazardous materials handling, chemical processing, semiconductor, or wafer processing environments.

· Familiarity with Cal/OSHA requirements in addition to federal OSHA.

· Experience supporting incident investigations or JHAs.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to work in manufacturing and industrial environments, including exposure to noise, temperature variation, and chemicals with appropriate PPE.

· Ability to walk production floors for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, bend, kneel, and wear required personal protective equipment.

· Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
