The primary role of the LEAD Student Facilitator position is supporting other students in their leadership development by coaching Purdue students in need of on-demand support for addressing issues, planning, decision-making, or resolving conflict in their leadership or teamwork roles. Coaches will be paid for mandatory training, and at times when they have open appointment slots during their scheduled work time they may also collaborate with LEAD staff to develop and/or test new curricula or workshop materials, prepare and/or make presentations, and engage in leadership professional development. The goal of this position is to give students valuable real-world experience leading peer professional development opportunities in a professional and flexible environment. This position should work 6-8 hours per week during the semester. Those hours may be worked in any combination, at the discretion of the direct supervisor, but generally Coaches are expected to work in the office in KRACH 336, whether their coaching appointments are in person, virtual, or unfilled. LEAD Peer Coaches must be reliable, confident, responsible, and flexible. They must also be empathetic and able to communicate effectively. Federal Work Study is not required.

Qualifications and Responsibilities

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of two semesters of college coursework successfully completed
Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University or Purdue Global
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
Confidence in front of peers (individual and group)
Ability to present to small or large audiences
Flexible and dependable with a strong attention to detail
Problem solving, logic and reasoning skills
Customer service oriented
Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
Ability to work with various stakeholders
Ability to work independently and with a team
Be timely and organized
Required: at least one semester completed as a student at Purdue
Preferred: participation in at least one LEAD program or workshop

Position Responsibilities

Engage in professional development to improve leadership and coaching skills
Hold weekly office hours in LEAD department
Manage schedules in BoilerConnect
Participate in assessment data collection, analysis, and reporting
Report activities on a weekly basis
Maintain safety and risk management standards of the department
Exhibit friendliness, diplomacy, and tact in responding to LEAD stakeholders
Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive information
Responsible for all scheduled shifts (based on class/exam schedules for the semester)
Other duties as assigned when coaching hours remain unfilled or booked students do not show
