Job Summary
The Executive Protection Officer will provide armed close protection for university executives, visiting dignitaries, and high-profile guests in accordance with department policies and threat assessments. You will conduct advance site visits, route planning, and logistical coordination of resources in support of protection details, maintain readiness to respond to emergencies, medical incidents, and security threats and prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including operational plans and police case reports. In addition, you will provide transportation services to executives and guests of the university and coordinate with federal, state, and local law enforcement both in Indiana and during travel to ensure cohesive protective operations.
Executive Protection Officers are fully sworn law enforcement officers; however, individuals hired for this role are exclusively hired into the Executive Protection Division and are not eligible to transfer into any other non–Executive Protection role within the Purdue University Police Department. This is a separate division within PUPD, with its own staffing structure, operational expectations, and defined career path.
What You'll Be Doing:
Escorting principal through crowds, public appearances, and other locations
Maintaining constant situational awareness and proactively identifying threats/dangers
Protecting the principal from all threats, including verbal and physical, and exposure to embarrassment
Providing transportation services to various locations and venues and operating vehicles within department policy/general orders
Providing office security when the principal is working in the office
Operating with professionalism and confidentiality
Developing and maintaining detailed threat, travel, and contingency plans
Conducting detailed site assessments of venues, buildings, hotels, residences, travel routes, and other locations to outline movements for safe operations and prepare written documentation of operations
Reviewing and identifying potential security risks and vulnerabilities
Coordinating with law enforcement in the use of necessary assets for safe operations
Assisting in planning trips/travel, including international travel, with support staff
Preparing expense reports
Generating law enforcement reports
Coordinating vehicle maintenance: cleaning, servicing, etc.
Attending department and outside training
Maintaining ILEA Tier I certification, including all required hours associated with that certification and compliance with department general orders
Attending specialized training associated with executive protection
Identifying criminal activity and investigating complaints of criminal conduct
Conducting interviews of victims, witnesses, suspects, and offenders
Serving as a liaison between PUPD administration and Executive Leadership
What We're Looking For:
High School Diploma/GED
At least 1 year of law enforcement experience
Law enforcement experience, in a sworn capacity and currently recognized as a law enforcement officer in good standing by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy
A strong commitment to customer service and high attention to detail
Strong leadership, interpersonal relationship, and public relations skills, as well as demonstrated organizational abilities
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated use of good judgment and the ability to solve problems in an innovative way
Must be able to adapt and react to unusual conditions and work effectively under pressure
Must be able to maintain Indiana Police Officer certification including completion of 24 hours of continuing education annually
Must have a good working knowledge of Constitutional law, criminal and traffic codes, University rules and regulations, and Departmental policies and procedures
Demonstrated skills in executive protection, operation planning, intelligence and venue assessment
Ability and comfort in travelling domestically and internationally
Must be physically and mentally capable of performing all duties of a police officer
Must successfully complete the Purdue Police Officer Physical Abilities Test annually
Exposed to job hazards and working conditions associated with police and executive protection work
Must be able to maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s license
Will work non-traditional hours
Required to carry a cell phone for call back to campus
