Purcell is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Detailer & Design Coordinator to join our team in Watertown, New York. The ideal candidate is solution-driven, organized, and able to work collaboratively to overcome challenges throughout the design, coordination, and construction process. The ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting or exceeding project deadlines is essential.
This position plays a key role in coordinating design efforts, producing detailed drawings, and supporting the execution of our prefabricated light-gauge structural systems. The successful candidate will interact with all levels of our organization and regularly communicate with architects, engineers, owners, developers, field personnel, subcontractors, and material suppliers.
In addition to detailing and design coordination responsibilities, this individual will assist with estimating, preconstruction activities, procurement, and project management tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and coordinate shop drawings for in-house and subcontracted fabrication.
- Produce accurate construction details and building assemblies using AutoCAD and other modeling software.
- Navigate and interpret architectural, structural, and construction documents.
- Support Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination and model evaluation efforts.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external project stakeholders to resolve design and construction challenges.
- Assist with design coordination during both preconstruction and active construction phases.
- Support estimating efforts, including quantity takeoffs, assembly pricing, and change order preparation.
- Assist Project Managers with preconstruction planning, procurement, construction administration, and project closeout activities.
- Maintain organized project documentation and communicate effectively with project team members.
Qualifications
- General understanding of building construction methods, assemblies, and sequencing.
- Working knowledge of the construction project lifecycle from design through project completion.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD with experience producing construction and fabrication drawings.
- Familiarity with Revit, Navisworks, SketchUp, or similar BIM and modeling software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines.
Education, Experience & Certifications
- Associate degree in Construction Technology, Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of construction-related experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience using AutoCAD or comparable design software to produce drawings.
- Valid driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with light-gauge steel framing systems.
- Experience with estimating, procurement, or project management support.
- Familiarity with fabrication processes and prefabricated building systems.
