What are the responsibilities and job description for the Groundsman I - Physical Plant position at Punahou?
The Physical Plant office supports, manages, and maintains 75 acres of campus and nearly 1 million square feet of instruction space, as well as supporting every school department with vital campus services. Punahou School is currently seeking a Groundsman whose responsibilities include: campus landscape, grounds cleaning, exterior pest/animal control, tree trimming, planting, irrigation and field-lining for athletic events. Grounds staff maintain the campus recycling nursery and sod farm, as well as assist with retrieval of items from trees or the lily pond.
This position typically performs general labor of a routine nature in the maintenance of school grounds. The core responsibilities of this role are to utilize appropriate garden tools and equipment such as rakes, clippers, mowers, and mechanical sweepers, to clean grounds, parking lots, and garages on campus, as well as maintain landscape planting by trimming, watering vegetation, mowing lawns, and transplanting as necessary.
Position Details:
- Work Year: 12 Months
- Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM, Must be flexible to work beyond scheduled hours and/or weekends as needed
- Minimum Hourly Rate*: $21.50/Hour - Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent.
- Must have valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.
- At least six (6) months related experience and/ or training.
