Library Circulation Technician - Junior School

As Punahou School looks to the future, leaders imagine a richly networked learning environment, where technology is leveraged to connect people to information and each other.  As part of the educational team, the Circulation Technician will provide a range of technical circulation support as well as administrative support to assist students, faculty and others to promote, extend, and make effective use of the library's resources and collections.  The technician will support operations related to processing of print, supplies, and related equipment.

• Check-out print and non-print library materials (K-8) to students and faculty; check-in materials on return. Assist students and faculty in locating books and be proactive with students to understand their needs.
• Share student and faculty requests/needs with librarians, which will assist with collection development and purchasing.
• Work collaboratively to assist in creating a warm, stimulating, and safe environment by creating displays and comfortable areas for study and reading.
• Assist students with library catalog.
• Maintain and display serial book titles, shelve books and maintain collection in shelf list order and maintain records of library circulation.
• Process and display new library acquisitions
• Label, reinforce, bind, jacket, stamp and repair library materials.
• Maintain accurate registration and transaction files and review files to identify overdue materials. Prepare overdue notices and assess overdue, damaged and lost materials. Follow-up on overdue notices to recover unreturned library materials. Contact parents and faculty as needed. Work with the business office to process library charges and credits for lost, and damaged books.
• Respond to parent inquiries regarding billing procedures, overdue books, and general library information
• Coordinate requests for maintenance work, annual inventory of supplies, order and process library supplies, and other responsibilities for administrative duties.  
• Remove book plates, due date slips, cancel barcodes, and box books during the weeding process.
• Conduct annual inventory of collection, search for missing items and notify librarians of materials to reorder
• Helping ensure student safety

• School Year: 2026-2027
• Months: 9 Months
• Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, schedule may vary based on operational needs
• Starting Hourly Rate*: $20.50/Hour

Pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity.
 

Minimum Qualifications:
 

• High School Diploma.
• One (1) year of library circulation or customer service experience.
• Two (2) years working with the students, faculty and library staff in a fast-paced team environment.
• Familiar with Google Suite applications and basic computer skills
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; an understanding of the developmental needs of young children, sensitivity to each individual student’s needs; and ability to appreciate the variety of perspectives offered by individual viewpoints, disciplines and cultural understandings.
