Director - Procurement Services

Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Treasurer and Controller, the Director, Procurement Services provides strategic leadership in initiating best practices in procurement as well as implementing efficient and effective business purchasing processes for the School. Leads the collaborative efforts to ensure acceptance, implementation, and maintenance of procurement related functions. Performs specialized, complex, and technical duties related to the sourcing, purchasing, and acquisition of materials, supplies, equipment, and contractual services. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Design and implement comprehensive procurement strategies, policies, and procedures that enhance operational efficiency while mitigating risk to the School. Ensure full compliance with established procurement guidelines throughout all School operations.
• Develop and execute sourcing initiatives to identify products and services that align with the School’s strategic objectives, optimizing affordability, sustainability, and positive community impact.
• Establish, administer, and manage a variety of contract types in support of School operations.
• Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to identify and address contract-related risks, ensuring adherence to all relevant laws and policies.
• Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for procurement and purchasing systems, managing system configurations, upgrades, and process documentation. Maintain system interfaces, address technical issues, and oversee technology enhancements.
• Implement and manage an inventory management system to accurately track receipts, distributions, and on-hand inventory levels.
• Develop and implement internal controls to minimize risks.
• Prepare and deliver consolidated reports on critical financial metrics.
  
  

Position Details

• Work Year: 12 Months
• Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Hours may vary based on operational needs
• Minimum of Salary Range*: $150,000 - Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.
• Punahou School offers a comprehensive total rewards program that includes competitive pay and benefits. The pay rate, if displayed, is the minimum hourly rate for the position. Pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics and/or related field.
• Eight (8) years in progressively responsible procurement or related experience, including three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
• Certification from the Institute of Supply Management (ISM) or Association for Supply Chain Management (ACSM) preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in developing procurement strategy, coordinating requests for proposals/services, administering/managing contracts, sourcing, and procurement operations.
• Working knowledge of procurement regulations, prevalent practices, and emerging trends.
• Highly adaptable to change with the ability to meet evolving organizational needs and ability to drive tactical and operational decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to actively listen yet influence or gain buy-in, as necessary. Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills at multiple levels of the School.
• Ability to facilitate cross-functional teams to successful resolution of challenging and complex issues.
• Advanced computer skills with MS Office and working knowledge of procurement software and technologies.
• Ability to effectively direct and supervise.
• Experience in business process re-engineering and organizational transformation preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
