Position Description
The PSL Officials Manager is a full-time position which utilizes remote, in office, and on-location working environments and requires evening and weekend hours, all while allowing for a flexible schedule. This person will be responsible for managing all PSL officials. As the main point of contact, this position will require development and execution of strategies for recruiting, onboarding, retaining, rewarding, developing, training, and evaluating officials. Additionally, the position will be required to officiate/umpire games as needed. PUMP will cover the costs of certifications for CPR and all sport related certifications (i.e. national and local association certifications by sport). Lastly, as part of the PSL staff, duties such as equipment management and maintenance, field and facility checks, assistance with tournaments and events is required.
The PSL Officials Manager reports directly to the PSL Director and works as part of a team of professionals who serve PSL and PUMP.
Representative Tasks & Major Responsibilities
PSL Officials Management (75%)
- Organizing and maintaining a seasonal officials schedule for PSL sports.
- Including but not limited to: flag football, kickball, soccer, softball, tennis clinic, and volleyball (indoor and sand).
- Assigning weekly and seasonal games to officials per sport league.
- Filling substitutes for scheduled officials as needed.
- Coordinating equipment drop-off and pickup.
- Equipment inventory management.
- Creating and implementing recruitment and onboarding processes for new officials.
- Coordinating sport specific trainings.
- Identifying resources needed to improve communication processes.
- Communicating rules, rosters, or other updates to officials as needed.
- Conducting preseason meetings.
- Communicating with PSL staff for streamlined understanding of who is officiating where.
- Recording of official hours on a weekly basis for payroll.
- Conducting seasonal umpire evaluations and reviews for assigned sports.
Other Duties (25%)
- Use social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and email marketing to promote leagues, events, and all other league and event news.
- Available for on-call nights throughout the seasons. Monthly schedules created in advance.
- Work with PSL staff on implementation of any new protocols, policies, systems, etc.
- Stay up to date on all league rules and equipment requirements.
- Research ways to improve leagues.
General
- Support PUMP staff with any PUMP events.
- Be an ambassador for PUMP.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, Events Management, or relevant field preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- General sports knowledge and experience.
- Ability to multitask.
- Detail oriented.
- Creative.
- Ability to work both independently and in teams.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, ever changing, and growing environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Products. Database and web application knowledge are a plus.
Requirements
- Full-Time. Flexible schedule with required evening and weekend hours.
- League participation encouraged.
- Valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle.
- Frequent travel around Pittsburgh.
Salary and Benefits
This position is full-time with a pay range of $18-20/hour. Benefits including health insurance, parking allowance, travel reimbursement, health and wellness allowance, and waived PSL fees.
