About the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine

The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine (PCCSM) at UTMB is a leader in the delivery of advanced respiratory, critical care, and sleep medicine services. With 14 faculty and 12 fellows, the Division combines excellence in clinical care, research, and education to serve patients across UTMB’s four hospital campuses — Galveston, League City, Clear Lake, and Angleton-Danbury Campus.
The Division provides comprehensive care for a broad spectrum of pulmonary and critical care and sleep conditions, including obstructive and restrictive lung diseases, pulmonary vascular disease, lung cancer, and complex respiratory failure. Faculty members serve as key leaders in UTMB’s intensive care units, ambulatory pulmonary and sleep medicine, delivering around-the-clock critical care and advancing evidence-based practices through multidisciplinary collaboration.
PCCSM also maintains a robust presence in Sleep Medicine, offering diagnostic and therapeutic services for sleep-related disorders through the UTMB Sleep Centers.
The ACGME-accredited Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program provides comprehensive training across all aspects of pulmonary and critical care medicine. Fellows benefit from exposure to diverse patient populations, advanced technologies, and a collaborative learning environment that promotes professional growth and clinical expertise.
Research within the Division spans clinical, translational, and basic science domains, with active projects in lung cancer and screening, COPD, ILD, pulmonary hypertension, and sleep-disordered breathing. Faculty collaborate across UTMB’s research institutes and centers, supporting innovation that bridges bench to bedside.
