DEFINITION OF POSITION: The teacher will carry out the position performance requirements essential to provide the necessary reading and math support services to identified students in the Pullman School District.


IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:
Elementary Principal


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess or be eligible for a Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in elementary education
  • Three or more years of teaching experience at the elementary level
  • Successful experience working with elementary-age children

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters of reading or reading endorsement
  • Successful experience working with children in reading
  • Successful experience working with children in mathematics
  • Working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices
  • Working knowledge of reading and math assessment tools and intervention programs
  • Training in using alternative classroom assessments
  • Knowledge of Common Core State Standards and grade level expectations

ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES

  • Identify the learning needs of individual students using intervention program screeners and assessments
  • Establish learning objectives and outcomes consistent with individual pupil’s learning needs and the District’s learning objectives and goals
  • Plan and develop a variety of instructional experiences appropriate to the specified learning objectives and outcomes
  • Conduct an effective instructional plan for individuals or small groups
  • Select and/or create and/or utilize existing instructional materials
  • Integrate technology into the curriculum
  • Assess pupils’ achievement
  • Organize the physical setting so it contributes to learning and keep classroom materials well organized
  • Provide a climate conducive to student learning
  • Develop and maintain clear standards for student conduct with appropriate disciplinary action
  • Maintain effective communication with staff and families
  • Understand and practice contemporary pedagogical practices such as developmentally appropriate practices, contextual teaching, integrated curriculum, inclusion practices, classroom-based assessment, alternative assessment practices, individualized programs, global/multi-cultural education, differentiated instruction, and integration of Washington State Grade Level Expectations with current curricular materials
  • Remain pedagogically current through continuing professional development
  • Communicate effectively using district supported print and electronic media and related applications
  • Subscribe to the professional code of ethics for educators
  • Maintain an understanding of Affirmative Action, Title IX, and handicapped regulations
  • Possess and practice strong interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization (staff, parents, community members, other agencies)
  • Be a positive team builder who works in a collaborative manner
  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Communicate clearly, orally and in writing
  • Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance, actions, decisions, and overall performance
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible

TERMS OF CONTRACT:

  • Salary: $27,405 - $51,654, placement based on experience, level of education, and actual FTE
  • Length of Contract: 1.0 FTE, leave replacement position beginning approximately February 2, 2026, through June 12, 2026
  • Leaves/Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the Pullman Education Association (PEA) and the Pullman School District (PEA Bargaining Agreement).
