What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bakery Assistant - Baker position at Pullman Bakery & Shige Pan?
Seeking an early-morning, weekday available baking assistant for our Japanese bakery located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace. No experience required, though a year of food experience preferred. Responsibilities include mixing dough, rolling dough, and using a maker/sheeter. The position is part-time with potential to grow to full-time. The expected shifts for baking are typically 5:30 AM - 1:30 PM on certain weekdays. Saturday and Sunday availability is required.
An online video interview will be held. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience with delicious Japanese baked goods!
Duties include:
- Preparing dough
- Operating fryer
- Cleaning pans and trays
- Prepare equipment for baking
- Measure and weigh flour and other ingredients
- Knead, roll, cut, and shape dough
- Place dough in pans, molds, or on sheets
- Place and bake items in hot ovens or on grills
- Set oven temperatures
- Observe color and state of products being baked
- Apply glazes, icings, or other toppings
- Keep track of inventory and notify management when running low
- Learning and reproducing baking techniques
- Supporting the head baker in preparation of various bread items
- Communicating and coordinating with the baking team to meet daily goals
Qualifications and Skills:
- Ability to read and follow recipes
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Good organizational skills
- Confidence in upper body strength and stamina
- Must be able to adhere to health and safety regulations
- Ability to meet strict deadlines
- Must be able to come in for shifts on time
- Must be available to work weekends
- Japanese language skill a big plus, but not required
- Starting wage is dependent on education, work experience, and skill
- Must be able to video interview online via whereby.com app or website
IMPORTANT: This job position requires strong physical upper body strength and stamina for working with dough and heavy objects, and is recommended only for people who are confident with their physical ability.
