Lead a vibrant elementary school community as a learning-focused principal dedicated to ensuring every student achieves at high levels. Learning Leadership Lead a collaborative school culture focused on high levels of learning for every student while setting a clear vision and direction for continuous improvement. Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Guide high-quality teaching and learning by using data, supporting strong instructional practices, and ensuring alignment to standards and student needs. Staff Development & Supervision Support, coach, and evaluate staff to build collective efficacy, promote professional growth, and ensure a positive, high-performing team.
School Culture & Student Support Foster a safe, inclusive, and student-centered environment that supports positive behavior, engagement, and success for all learners. Family & Community Engagement Build strong partnerships with families and the community through clear communication, collaboration, and shared ownership of student success. Operations & Resource Management Oversee daily school operations, including budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and facilities, to ensure an effective and efficient learning environment. Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement Lead school improvement efforts aligned to district goals, using data and collaboration to plan, implement, and refine practices.

Position Responsibilities:

Learning Leadership
  • Creates a team atmosphere with supervisors, colleagues, and staff.
  • Maintains a District perspective by promoting and supporting the District Educational Philosophy and contributing to the achievement of District Goals.
  • Promotes the educational success of every student at high levels of learning.

  • Provides for the ongoing review, evaluation and development of rules, guidelines, procedures and practices consistent with the policies and decisions of the board of education, district administrator, and administrative team. *
  • Coordinates the efforts of assigned school personnel and makes effective use of these personnel.
  • Provides for effective registration, assignment and orientation of students.
  • Ensures fairness and consistency in all activities related to student personnel including record keeping, enrollment, attendance, and discipline.
  • Serves as the Local Educational Agency representative at special education Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.) meetings, or appoints a designee as per school board policy. *
  • Leads the buildings journey of becoming a Professional Learning Component (PLCs) with collaborative work and oversight with building level guiding coalition, school-wide intervention team (SIT), and teacher teams.
  • Supervises the organization of co-curricular activities and community education programs within the building. *


Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment
  • Ensures that the improvement of student learning is the primary focus of curriculum and instructional leadership.
  • Implements procedures for student placements and teacher assignments to ensure student success. *
  • Participates in providing services to meet the individual needs of all students. *
  • Collaborates in curriculum development and provides input to the Teaching and Learning Department and the Curriculum Development Teams for the adoption of standards and benchmarks. *
  • Monitors the teaching of district standards / benchmarks along with power standards, learning targets and success criteria to ensure consistency and continuity of the curriculum being delivered in their building. *
  • Utilizes student assessment data and other sources of input to provide leadership for improving student learning, school improvement planning, and decision-making. *
  • Monitors classroom instruction and classroom assessment to ensure the use of current instruction and assessment practices. *
  • Focuses staff on the four critical PLC questions, three big ideas of PLC and six essential elements of PLCs


Supervision and Evaluation
  • Ensures a climate free of discrimination and pupil harassment with equity for all.
  • Ensures quality coaching and feedback of staff for adult learning and growth.
  • Completes staff supervision and evaluation in accordance with district policy and administrative procedures. *
  • Maintains the employee personnel file within the regulatory structure of the staff handbook and established district procedures. *
  • Makes annual recommendations to the district administrator regarding the employment status of staff members. *
  • Keeps student progress and growth uppermost in mind when evaluating the effectiveness of the total school program.
  • Supervises the use of the school building, facilities and grounds. *
  • Supervises all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the school's curriculum. *
  • Supervises the preparation of reports and records required or appropriate to the school's administration. *


Personnel
  • Recommends to the district administrator the employment, promotion, demotion or dismissal of assigned staff members. *
  • Participates in the orientation of new personnel. *
  • Provides leadership in staff development and learning by assessing site-based needs and encouraging and/or providing training opportunities. *
  • Provides opportunities for and encourages staff members to participate in clinics, workshops, state and regional meetings.
  • Develops and implements appropriate professional development activities in cooperation with the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning and the Director of Student Services. *
  • Involves professional staff in curriculum planning and development.
  • Responsible for interpreting and enforcing all negotiated agreements. Provides a framework in which staff can work cooperatively and share in decision-making. *
  • Provides leadership and support to teaching and support staff.
  • Creates an atmosphere of fairness, trust and consistency in dealing with work-related issues.
  • Counsels with employees to resolve concerns and sensitive personnel problems. *
  • Maintains open communication to resolve conflicts at the lowest level. *
  • Conducts periodic staff meetings in support of school and district needs and initiatives. *
  • Works with professional and support staff in solving problems as they arise.
  • Investigates, discusses, and processes employee grievances. *
  • Develops and maintains a faculty handbook outlining building policies and procedures. *
  • Provides all school personnel with a set of building emergency procedures. *


School/Community/Parent Relations
  • Assumes responsibility for developing and coordinating positive school - community relations. *
  • Acts as the liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life. *
  • Maintains an active interest in community activities.
  • Allows for and encourages open communication with the public. *
  • Fosters a positive public image of school staff.
  • Serves as an advocate for students and for education in the community. *
  • Provides opportunities for two-way communication between the school and the school community.
  • Communicates information of interest to the community through various media including the newspaper, television, and radio. *
  • Responds to written and oral requests for information. *
  • Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school sponsored activities or functions and athletic events. *
  • Develops student handbooks on policies and procedures. *
  • Serves as an advocate for students and their educational programs.
  • Provides opportunities for parents to discuss and resolve individual student problems.
  • Communicates with parents’ regarding student learning outcomes, student assessment results, school activities and other school information. *
  • Works cooperatively with parent groups, school improvement teams, committees, and other school groups and organizations. *
  • Provides for and supports partnerships with parents for the purpose of helping each student achieve their maximum potential.
  • Mediates disputes and resolves problems which arise between the school and the school community. *


Budget, Resource Management, and Records
  • Develops and administers the building's budget. *
  • Utilizes appropriate budgeting and accounting procedures as established by the Director of Business Services. *
  • Solicits and provides appropriate input to develop requests for funding reflective to identified needs. *
  • Approves all purchase orders originating from the building in accordance with school board policy. *
  • Maintains and monitors personnel and student records as required by law, regulation, and policy. *
  • Provides for the maintenance of appropriate records indicating the location and condition of property and funds.
  • Maintains an inventory by location and condition of building materials, supplies, and equipment. *
  • Provides supervision and subsequent follow-up necessary to assure that facilities and equipment are kept clean, safe, and in satisfactory condition. *
  • Works with the district building and grounds coordinator in connection with supervising building maintenance, safety issues, and scheduling the facility for public use. *
  • Maintains student activity funds in accordance with Board policy and district business procedures. *


Planning
  • Participates in district short and long range planning. *
  • Leads staff in short and long range planning related to the building and district level. *
  • Develops the master schedule of classes and assignment of teachers. *
  • Coordinates the development of the master schedule with district and building administration. *
  • Identifies personnel needs and coordinates staffing with the district and building administration. *
  • Coordinates and schedules staff and building utilization. *
  • Develops a master calendar of school-sponsored events. *
  • Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the school’s instructional program. *
  • Provides direction and oversight for the school’s co-curricular programs. *
  • Plans, organizes, and directs the implementation of all school activities. *


Student Management, Assistance and Advocacy
  • Models appropriate and professional behavior. *
  • Acknowledges and reinforces appropriate student and staff behavior through the teaching and reteaching of positive behaviors *
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces appropriate discipline while according to students their due process rights. *
  • Communicates expectations regarding student behavior to the students, staff and parents. *
  • Identifies and modifies factors contributing to student behavior problems. *
  • Counsels with students and teachers to resolve individual student behavior problems. *
  • Works effectively with students and others in addressing and resolving student discipline and behavior concerns*
  • Establish, maintain, and update the Student and Parent Handbook.
  • Cooperate with the school counselors in planning and delivering meaningful career information and planning opportunities for students through Academic Career Planning (ACP).


Other
  • Reports to the district administrator or designee on school matters. *
  • Reports to the board of education as requested by the district administrator. *
  • Attends board of education and board workshop meetings as requested by the district administrator. *
  • Attends local, state, and national meetings as is necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this job description, subject to the approval of the district administrator. *
