Position: Fire Apparatus Mechanic
Rate of Pay: $7,573.61 - $9,350.24 monthly ($90,883 - $112,203 annually). This position is non-exempt and therefore eligible for overtime.

Our workforce is comprised of approximately 475 employees.
Work Location: There are several Fire Garage locations, and the base location would be determined upon hire and based on staffing needs. Our service locations are in Kent, Renton, Maple Valley Mountain View, Burien, and Auburn. Throughout the course of your work, you may report to various stations throughout our service area.
Typical Schedule: Working a day shift; either a 10-hr. day, four days a week or an 8-hr day, five days a week.

General Purpose

Essential Functions
- Inspect assigned equipment; diagnose noise, electrical and mechanical problems and determine the extent of repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance duties as needed; maintain work area for cleanliness and safety.
- Maintain, troubleshoot and repair air, brake, electrical and hydraulic systems; maintain and repair components in fire pump system.
- Repair, overhaul, tune and adjust a variety of diesel and gas engines, transmissions, pumps and valves of assigned equipment.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Maintain records of maintenance, test and work performed on a computer-based system.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Methods, tools, equipment and materials used in the overhaul, repair and maintenance of fire department equipment and vehicles
- Concepts of preventative maintenance and its relationship to repairs.
- Safety requirements of various types of vehicles and equipment
- Air conditioning systems
- NFPA and DOT standards as they pertain to vehicle maintenance
- Air, brake, electrical, hydraulic systems, and air conditioning systems
- Equipment modification and rebuild techniques
- Metal fabrication and welding
- Analyzing, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical and electrical problems
- Interpersonal communication and relations using tact, patience and courtesy
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Problem solving and time management.
- Basic computer and accurate record keeping skills including email, word processing and data entry.
- Repair, overhaul, maintain and operate a variety of emergency response equipment and vehicles
- Use shop tools and testing equipment safely and efficiently

- Valid Driver’s License
- Upon hire, ability to complete the department’s Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention Course
- Must possess a Master mechanic tool set
- Class B CDL or ability to obtain within one year
- Basic skills in Microsoft Office 365 Products, Excel, Word, Outlook
- Typical business office machinery and equipment used include, but are not limited to, personal computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, and calculator.
- Motorized vehicles used include, but are not limited to, department vehicles from site to site several times each day.
- Standard and specialized hand and power machines, tools and equipment used in mechanical repair and maintenance of the vehicles and equipment including, but not limited to, engine scan tools, welding, and fabrication equipment, etc.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Physical strength to exert force and/or lift or carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds occasionally and 10 to 25 pounds frequently; occasionally required to lift up to 110 pounds with the assistance of another worker; requires endurance to frequently move about from location to location; frequently required to push and/or pull equipment; frequently reaches and uses hands and arms and/or feet and legs to move controls on machinery or equipment; requires repetitive hand motion associated with hand and power tools; required to kneel, crouch, bend, stoop, climb, balance on ladders, or crawl.
