Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of controls technicians to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.
- Develop workable solutions with leadership to proactively identify and resolve potential issues before they impact project success.
- Function as the primary communication conduit between the controls department, internal teams, and external clients/subcontractors.
- Study bid documents, drawings, and specifications to identify risks, opportunities, omissions, and value engineering possibilities; develop realistic schedules and budgets.
- Work with preconstruction, operations, and other departments to ensure project goals, milestones, and profitability targets are met.
- Review subcontractor scopes and identify potential risks or omissions; coordinate procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies per company standards.
- Track project budgets, costs, labor productivity, and forecasts; identify variances, pitfalls, or profit-enhancing opportunities and implement corrective actions.
- Promote open communication among project teams, clients, engineers, and subcontractors; organize and attend coordination meetings and site reviews.
- Maintain detailed documentation of scope changes, execution decisions, costs, and client communications.
- Ensure strict adherence to budgetary guidelines, quality standards, safety requirements, company policies, and contractual obligations.
- Oversee project closeout, including startup/commissioning coordination, punch lists, as-builts, and warranty support.
- Mentor and develop controls team members, setting objectives, providing guidance, and contributing to performance evaluations and growth.

Requirements/Qualifications
- Experience: 5–10 years of progressive experience in controls, building automation, or mechanical project management, including team leadership and managing commercial projects from startup to closeout.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience with strong technical controls knowledge considered.
- Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver's license and clean driving record required; controls-related certifications (e.g., Niagara/Tridium, BACnet, or manufacturer-specific) a plus; OSHA 30-hour certification encouraged.
- Physical Demands: Primarily office-based with frequent job-site visits; ability to walk active construction sites, climb ladders/stairs, lift light materials (plans, laptop), and travel regionally/nationally as needed; standard office mobility for computer work and meetings.
- Work Environment/Safety: Professional office with hybrid options and active construction sites; exposure to varying weather, noise, dust, heights; must adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots) on sites—safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position.
- Strong project management (scheduling, budgeting, risk management, change order handling, cost control).
- Leadership, team mentoring, performance management, and conflict resolution.
- Proficiency with project tools (Procore, MS Project, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written/verbal communication, client/stakeholder management, and relationship building.
- Technical knowledge of building controls systems (DDC, BAS, integration with HVAC/mechanical) and ability to read/interpret drawings/specifications.
- Safety and quality leadership; multitasking under pressure with urgency, initiative, and professionalism.
