Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a network of charter schools serving students across the TK-Post Secondary continuum in the Greater MacArthur Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Pueblo Nuevo Education Development Group (PNEDG) is CNCA’s resource development and capacity building arm. PNEDG invests in young people to foster personal transformation and generational social change. PNEDG staff support and build capacity for CNCA schools in achieving their vision. The organizations are grounded in the beliefs that public education is a civil right and all students deserve an excellent education that will prepare them for success in life. At CNCA/PNEDG, we recognize that lower income and immigrant communities often face institutional and cultural barriers that create impediments to students’ success, and that an excellent education must eliminate these barriers. Currently, CNCA has six (6) campuses that serve approximately 3,500 students from TK through 12th grade. Position: Full Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
The Opportunity
The Plant Manager supervises, coordinates, and participates in the cleaning, gardening, and operation of CNCA schools and office facilities. The role ensures the safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of the site, reporting to a school principal or site administrator for overall management and to the Operations Branch for technical supervision.
Responsibilities
Custodial Oversight
- Supervise and participate in cleaning restrooms, classrooms, libraries, gyms, offices, and other facilities.
- Perform sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, polishing, and disinfecting.
- Assign and oversee schedules for routine and special cleanups, including school-vacation projects.
- Ensure facilities are secure and prepared for daily operations and special events.
Maintenance & Operations
- Inspect plant equipment to maintain safety and custodial standards.
- Operate and supervise heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems.
- Make minor repairs to power equipment, custodial tools, and building fixtures.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules with custodial staff and site administration.
Grounds & Equipment Care
- Supervise and participate in gardening tasks, including mowing, edging, trimming, and irrigation.
- Oversee use of lawn mowers, weed eaters, sweepers, and related equipment.
- Remove weeds, debris, and unplanted growth from grounds.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, and utility shutoff records.
- Supervise safe storage and use of cleaning agents and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with safety, fire, and environmental regulations.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate custodial and maintenance records.
- Order, receive, and distribute custodial supplies and equipment.
- Prepare reports on repairs, vandalism, theft, emergencies, and operational costs.
- Review and submit custodial time reports.
Team Leadership
- Train and supervise custodial and gardening staff.
- Assign special duties for educational, social, and civic activities.
- Work collaboratively with school personnel, administrators, and the public.
- Other duties as assigned.

- High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional coursework in supervision, maintenance, or related fields preferred.
- 3-5 years’ experience working in organizational operations and/or urban schools
- Spanish and English fluency preferred
- Knowledge of custodial and maintenance methods, materials, and equipment
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment required
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to understand and navigate the political, social, economic, legal and cultural context

- Reliable transportation and possession of the minimum required insurance coverage as mandated by the state of California for operation of a vehicle
