Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a network of charter schools serving students across the TK-Post Secondary continuum in the Greater MacArthur Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.  Pueblo Nuevo Education Development Group (PNEDG) is CNCA’s resource development and capacity building arm. PNEDG invests in young people to foster personal transformation and generational social change.  PNEDG staff support and build capacity for CNCA schools in achieving their vision.  The organizations are grounded in the beliefs that public education is a civil right and all students deserve an excellent education that will prepare them for success in life. At CNCA/PNEDG, we recognize that lower income and immigrant communities often face institutional and cultural barriers that create impediments to students’ success, and that an excellent education must eliminate these barriers. We integrate a strong focus on progressive, research-based academics with a holistic, place-based approach to serving our students. Currently, CNCA has six campuses that serve approximately 3,500 students from TK through 12th grade. Our goal is for CNCA graduates to be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and worldview necessary to be literate, critical thinkers and independent problem solvers.

Location: CNCA School Site as Assigned

Supervisor: Director of Mental Health

Work Periods: Full Time, 11 months

Direct Supervision Exercised: None

Class:  Classified, Exempt

 

The Opportunity:  Under the supervision of the Director of Mental Health, the Licensed Mental Health Therapist will serve as the professional clinician, providing counseling and therapy to CNCA students with emotional, mental, and/or behavioral challenges. In addition, the Licensed Mental Health Therapist will provide consultation services to the school staff to support the overall mental health goals of the school.  


Administrative Management & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Provide direct mental health services to include intake assessment, individual/family/group therapy, and crisis interventions to assigned students 
  • Provide support to staff as it relates to mental health and behavior issues
  • Conduct clinical interviews to gather information, assess student needs, determine level of hazard to self or others, determine need for hospitalization, and develop diagnostic information
  • Provide consultation services related to therapeutic needs of students with emotional disturbance, behavioral, and/or mental health needs
  • Provide complete and timely documentation to support services rendered
  • Act as student advocate in order to coordinate the required services or resolve emergency problems in crisis situations
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with other staff members, based on clinical experience and knowledge
  • Refer students or family members to community resources as necessary
  • Evaluate the students’ progress based on teacher, caregiver, and student self-reports
  • Gather and maintain data on needs and delivery of mental health services
  • Modify treatment activities and clinical approaches as needed in order to meet students’ needs
  • Establish collaborative partnership with parents, including respect for cultural differences and a variety of parenting styles
  • Maintain regular contact with the parent/guardian of each client
  • Facilitate workshops for parents and families when needed
  • Maintain confidentiality of records related to students’ treatment
  • Attend IEP and 504 meetings to support assigned clients’ emotional needs
  • Communicate and collaborate with other staff and family members as a means of effectively supporting students’ progress
  • Work with and communicate with other agencies (e.g., probation, law enforcement, other mental health providers, etc.,) to ensure all aspects of the students’ treatment are addressed 
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • MA Degree or higher in counseling, psychology, clinical social work, or a closely related field
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of working with children providing direct mental health and/or behavioral services
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, staff, families, members of the community, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, immigrants and underserved populations 
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of the common diagnoses and treatments for school-aged children
  • Must possess the skills necessary to facilitate positive change in a school environment
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to work with other professionals and law enforcement officials in the proper clinical treatment plan of clients
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team of other mental health supervisors participating in this mental health program and join the team in providing training and group consultation   
  • Experience or commitment working on a team as well as across teams

 

Salary : $71,000 - $81,557
