Job Summary
The Charge Registered Nurse plays a vital leadership role within our healthcare facility, overseeing patient care delivery and ensuring adherence to clinical standards. This position requires a highly skilled and compassionate nursing professional with extensive experience in diverse medical settings, including critical care, emergency medicine, and specialty areas such as ophthalmology, cardiology, and geriatrics. The Charge RN is responsible for coordinating nursing activities, supervising staff, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective assessment, planning, and implementation of care. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, and eClinicalWorks is essential to maintain accurate medical documentation and facilitate seamless communication across multidisciplinary teams.
Duties
- Lead and coordinate nursing staff in delivering comprehensive patient care across various departments including ICU, Emergency Room, Medical-Surgical units, and specialty clinics.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments utilizing advanced physiology knowledge, vital signs monitoring, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory tests and imaging studies.
- Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and perform procedures like suturing, catheterization (including Foley and central lines), tube feeding management, ostomy care, and sterile processing.
- Manage airway maintenance with ventilator support and perform advanced life support techniques aligned with ACLS protocols.
- Oversee infection control practices adhering to HIPAA regulations and CDC guidelines to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation of patient records, medical histories including ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, CPT coding for procedures, and case management notes.
- Provide education on health coaching topics including chronic disease management (diabetes, hypertension), pain management strategies, nutrition counseling, and discharge planning.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on complex cases involving trauma (Level I & II Trauma Centers), infectious diseases, post-acute care needs including hospice & palliative medicine or long-term care settings like assisted living or nursing homes.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols related to aseptic technique, infection control measures, and OSHA standards for working with potentially hazardous materials or infectious agents.
- Participate in staff training initiatives to promote professional development in areas such as ICD coding updates (ICD-10/ICD-9), laboratory procedures like specimen collection/processing or phlebotomy, and specialized treatments such as dermal fillers or esthetic laser therapy.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license in the state of practice with current BLS certification; ACLS certification preferred for ICU/trauma experience.
- Extensive clinical experience in LTC environments including ICU supervision of nurses/CNA's.
- Proven expertise in electronic health records systems such PCC.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology principles related to patient assessment and diagnostic evaluation.
- Experience administering injections (including IV insertion), oxygen therapy, strong assessment skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team effectively while maintaining high standards of patient safety and quality care delivery.
- Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines in fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients on complex health topics like medication administration or wound care while adhering to HIPAA privacy regulations.
